Just remember where u keep the originals. Garmin won't warranty them with after market antennas.

It's just hard to say cause I put a new antanna on the hand held and updated it all within a day or so of putting the new antanna on the collars. Regardless of what you do the range boils down to topography of the terrain and in some cases the weather ( clear sky or overcast,low cloud cover etc.).
