Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: Freestone co. Hogger on May 03, 2013, 02:54:31 pm I was asking for a school, not a shock system, this dog doesn't stay around your feet and you hardly ever see him, I'd hate to shock him not knowing what he was barking at.
Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: hoghunter71409 on May 03, 2013, 02:59:48 pm If he is too far, than how do you know he is trashing? Find him when he is trashing and teach him not to by using a shock system. Make an effort to stay up with the dog or get a head of him and see what he is doing. I dont know of a school that could teach any better than the dogs owner could.
Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: Muddogkennels on May 03, 2013, 03:05:51 pm put a video cam on his cut collar try to see what his barking at first before taking him to a school ! but the best true school is owned by a honest man is {justhunt} training camp he has good breaking tricks with out shocking.

Walk hunt him and like hoghunter said make an effort to stay up with him, if hes trashing shock him...or hunt him with people that have trash broke dogs...we have a yella dog that will come back if another dog is trashing. If hes not with them when they bay, he will go to them. When he gets there and sees they are trashing he will come back to us. Thats how we trash break all ours is with him, and being in the woods with them!! Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: Freestone co. Hogger on May 04, 2013, 02:59:16 am Lol i have trash broke a dog, I have a yella dog that won't hardly hunt but if he comes back you might as well leave the bulldogs up because it ain't a hog, just trying to see if y'all know of any schools or have ever used one, I've shocked the dog numerous times but he's so gamey he just won't hardly quit, if theirs a hog he's going to find it I just don't want him trashing at all.
Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: jimco on May 04, 2013, 05:22:23 am How old is the dog? I have 2 young ones that have a weakness for trashing on nutria . I wanted to make sure they were started on hogs
and knew what it was they were suppose to be hunting before I deal with the trashing. I've seen them pass thru cattle and deer jump right in front of them and they showed no interest but they can't resist a good fight with a nutria. The dogs seem to be started good so it's time to address the trashing and break out with the Tri Tronics. Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on May 04, 2013, 10:08:54 am Haha. Haven't seen a school yet that was more efficient than the school of hard knocks.
Tri tronics makes about the best remedy for trashing on the market as stated above. Second best is boot leather. >:D Them Trashing degrees.....are highly over rated. ;D. Need to take care of the problem yourself so you can identify future problems with that particular dog and any more on down the road. Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: firemedic on May 04, 2013, 04:42:30 pm Do you know what the dog is trashing on? I'm assuming you do if you know it's running the wrong thing. If it's deer, find some deer in a pasture or catch some running across the road in front of you and get the dog right to where they were.....if it's opens or tries to pursue the trash (deer or whatever it is)......then buzz the dog,....but be sure they the dog actually wants to pursue the trash, not just smell of where it was,....very important thing right there. This one of the best ways I know of to break trashing.
Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: Freestone co. Hogger on May 04, 2013, 10:55:40 pm Appreciate all the input, and yes It's deer, I've shocked him before. I've heard that if you get a cup and stuff it with paper towels and soak it in deer urine and hold it over his nose for as long as you can stand there, do it for as much as possible for about a month or so..never tried it myself but sounds promising.
Title: Re: Trash breaking school Post by: jimco on May 05, 2013, 10:27:20 am You might try some dog breaking scents. Cronks makes a deer breaking scent. Put some on a rag on the end of a stick and put it to his nose and hit him at the same time with tri tronics.

Only time I have seen tri tronics not work..is when the handler hasn't laid into them hard enough to make em stop. Also save your money on the scent breaks.....unless you have a very mild case of trashing. Them hard headed dogs will drink that scent breaker like a homeless man will cheap whiskey. |
