Title: Uncle Earl's
Post by: Bryant on February 26, 2008, 09:21:18 pm
Anyone here planning to go this year?

I've been trying to go the last two years and something has come up.  This year I'm planning to make the trip no matter what just to check things out and see what its all about.  I've never been before...anyone have any pointers?  I have always heard some shady stories about the dogs for sale there and luckily I'm not in the market for anything thats eats.

I'm considering pulling my travel trailer for myself, a hunting buddy and our two boys to stay in.  I assume there will be plenty of space?  Anything else I should know or watch out for?

Thanks!

we don't really attend bay competitions, i think mike has been to some before. i have nothing against them personally, i would just rather be out in the woods with the dogs  ;)

If you get in any trouble with the law... just ask for Danny Green. He's my first cousin and a Winn Parish Sheriff's deputy... tell him you know me and hopefully he can help you out! ;D

Been going for the last 9 years.  Don't bay any dogs but get to see a lot of friends from last year.
Lots to see under the trees and will be some good and bad deals so visit a lot and choose wisely.

See you there.

if you enjoy talking hog hunting you need to go i have been for the last 5 years,  i usually set up along the cable and sell a few young dogs.( the okie with the black cowboy hat and the hog tusk necklace)  its a great place to meet new people.  alot of venders and alot to see, i go down fri stay fri night look around sat. and hed home late sat.
if you ask every dog there is a #1 stike dog.lol, but it would be a pig in a poke.   although it is a good place to buy puppies. kinda like a hog hunters yard sale !

we need to keep track of who is going so we can put some faces together with the guys on the board.

the next best thing to hog hunting is talking about hog hunting.

Craig,

I think Mandi and I will be going.  I have not been, but would like to go at least once.

Might be a good time for me to pick up that running catch dog that you don't want to sell me ;D Heck, you don't have to sell her to me, just send her my way. We'll call it a "free lease" ;D

Thanks for the replys.  After reading about it, I'm fired up and ready to go!

Maybe we can exchange some phone numbers before then and try to meet up for a little bit.  I would like to put some names to faces.  Only ones on here I think I have met personally are Matt and Douglas although I think I owned a cur dog for a short time that came from you as a pup, Craig.  I got her from a guy named Brent up around the Dallas area I think.

I was going to try and make the expo, but things aren't looking promising.

She was a good well mannered dog, just didn't hunt as deep as what I was looking for.  At the time I was looking for more of a go-yonder type dog.  She ended up with a couple (back in Oklahoma I think) and I believe they are tickled with her.

This sounds like fun.  Where does this take place?  I checked out their website and didn't see much other than dates and past winners.

Bump to the top.

Well we're a couple weeks closer.  I don't care a whole bunch for bay competitions, but I'm getting pretty fired up about spending the weekend checkiing things out and doing lots of "hog-dog" talking.

Anyone else making plans?

Thanks, Scott.

I have talked on the phone with Larry probably half a dozen times, but never met in person.  I'll have to stop by.  I like his motto on breeding dogs...breed 'em to go, and whoop 'em to whoa.  I've never had any of his stock, but I hear they are good rangy hunting dogs.

Well about 8:00 in the morning I'll be headed that way.  If anyone else will be there throughout the weekend, give me a jingle at 254-534-2455 and we'll talk "dawgs".  I'm probably going to stay through sometime Sunday and will be camped out with the trailer somewhere on the grounds.

Have a safe trip to anyone else headed out!

Had a good time at Uncle Earl's this weekend.  We wanted to say thank you to everyone who stopped by.  This was our first hog baying to go to and we really enjoyed it.  Hope to be there again next year.

I had a great time as well.  I stopped by your booth Bryan, but your dad said you had left just a bit before I came by.

Met a lot of really good people and got to see any and all makes and models of dogs you could ever imagine.  My hunting buddy carried three good started dogs down to see about selling.  One guy chased us down when we turned in the parking lot and bought one not five minutes after we got there.  Didn't take long to sell the other two as well.  Seems like saddleback dogs are a sought after commodity down there.  We exchanged numbers to keep up with the progress of them.

There were some really good looking dogs there, and some not so good looking ones.  I ended up coming home with a couple t-shirts for my boys and one short bulldog lead.  My son tried all weekend to talk me into a puppy, but at six years old he hasn't quite mastered the hunting dog vs. pet deal....not to mention coming home with a puppy right after my wife had to tend to and feed all weekend would have went over like a turd in a punch bowl.

I had a good time, and will definately try to make it again next year.

Sorry I missed you Bryan.  I left early so I could get back home to do a little turkey hunting.  Redgy told me that you stopped by our set up.

Hey Bryant - next time you are going out of town for the weekend and need someone to feed your dogs let me know - long as I get to hunt them while they are eating down here ok? :) Always have room for Zeus and Ruby for any reason...

Tim

10-4 on that Tim!

Weekend before last I suited Zeus up three times and he didn't get to see any action.  This past weekend I was out of town and didn't get any hunting time in.  Needless to say, I think he's a little sore at me right now.

Ruby caught 7 this past weekend with my partner.  She's still on top of her game.  I'll try to send some pics.

Take care

I kinda had fun plowing through the mud arounds you guys' area with the tracked four-wheeler.

You end up selling those pups?

This is what I took home from Uncle Earls all the way to Denmark. She will be spoiled rotten by my daughter and me :)

We enjoyed a lot seeing all the different types of dogs working.
