Post by: Jaredmiko on May 23, 2013, 09:30:09 pm
Well we were sitting waiting on the dogs to strike and one of my dogs starts hollering and barking and raising hell me and 2 buddies head to him we get to him and he's covered with bees they hit our buddy Jose and me and Cody (CodyChap) take off running they chase us for about 500 yards zig zagging and running I was wondering has this happend to any of y'all? We gave the dog Benadryl to take down the swelling and Benadryl to Jose since he got lit up the worst lol

Then as Jose was swatting bees and running he dropped his garmin handheld so we had to go back to were the bees were and end up getting stung a couple more times.

I have but only if you are taking the hive apart and taking the honey. I would report it and let them get taken care of.

FYI when running from bees run into the wind and hit every branch or anything else that moves. Running into the wind gives you an advantage on speed. But bees see movement so hitting a branch will get some to go after the movement. So every branch you hit will get some bees off of you. Grab your dog because they tend to want to fight the bees.

The only bees in the woods that have chased me were hornets. But I got rid of them faster than than you got rid of those bees. So I think they need to be taken care of. Now if the dogs or a hog knocked a hive over they could just be honey bees. Short of that they are killer bees.

That makes scince about the wind and movement of branches! Thanks for the info and the bees were  in a hollow tree that was leaned over about 6 ft off the ground. I don't know what made them get after the dog I guess he got a little close for there comfort.

The Ranch manager wants us to take him to the bees to see how they can be taken care of.. We were lucky it could have been worse than what it was

I'm allergic to bees. :(

If I see one, there is NO 'staying calm' and all that jazz. I will be running for my life, lmao. I JUST recently got better at ignoring them HUGE fat bumble bees that hover around like helicopters, lol. It's them smaller bees that scare me, for good reason. It's that time of year now where alot of folks out here are keepin the bee boxes on their properties. Ugh.

We were doing a guided hunt several years back down near Bay City. My partner's group got attacked by a swarm of killer bees. I guess the 4 wheeler motors set them off when they got too close to the hive. One of the guys natural reaction was to jump off and run, he got stung around 40 times. Unfortunately, he left his bulldog on the bike and the dog didn't make it. The bees were still swarming it several hours later when they had to ride by in a truck, rope the 4 wheeler and drag it away.

I was always told that if you stay still and don't move, it'll leave you alone. Well the time I got stung and found out I was allergic.....I froze like everyone told me, and the daggone thing landed right on me of course.....took all I had not to panic, didn't move, but the sucker still stung me!!! WTF.

Africanized bees are no joke. They can go postal for no reason and don't give up attacking in swarms. I have watched documentaries about them and hope to never run into any. From what I've seen if u get in these u have only one choice. Run. As far and as fast as u can. They have even been known to hover above water waiting for the target to surface for some time.

Pest Control is my profession. The company I'm with now doesn't do many bee jobs but the first company I worked for did....a lot.

Regular Honey Bees aren't much to worry about.....USUALLY!

They can be agitated by four wheelers...lawn mowers...etc. when you get to close. They will sting of course and standing still does no good when they're in that state. Once they sting there is a pheromone released, it is basically a bulls eye target! Run your arse off...lol.

If they are not agitated...you can approach...and even stand next to hive, mere feet away, talk quietly...whatever...with no issues.

The swarm flying over could be a relocation of the hive but more often than not its the hive splitting. It got to big.

The only time I had any real issues were on hives that had already been messed with. Some maintenance man or the customer tried to take them out and failed. After that...NO ONE can get close.

I never had to deal with Africanized bees...don't think they are this far north yet. But they will attack at the drop of a hat from what I hear.

I been thinking about that same scenario about 10 years now...about 6 or 7 years ago my brother had to make a run for it...luckily he was around 200 yards from his house...
