I was thinking of getting a garmin system but hunted with sum buddies last night and see how they work  why waste the money  one would say dogs 50 yards they would be maybe 10 ft  the other one would keep loosen the dogs what is the best thing to get

What ive noticed from using my garmin and my buddies who have them is this,  are the collars and hand helds up to date, whats the refresh rate set at?  i make sure i double check for updates every other month and i dont have a problem.  Of course terrain does play a part as well.

While garmin does have issues I still think its the best bet. Long range antenna on collar and the long rubber antenna on unit works good for me. Plus with it being the most widely used its nice to put all dogs ur hunting with in ur system so u can get a better idea of what's going on.

Mines always been accurate. Dead on most of the time actually, just update system and collars and calibrate compass

Plain and simple I could not run the rcd/finder holders I do with oit a garmin. A good boar dont alwaus make a noise and without the garmin I would be lost on them.  My refresh rate is pretty quick but my buddys is longer to conserve battery life on his dog that will not hardly quit a hog soit takes a while for his to up date

s has been stated by some already,....updating is very important. Also letting the collars and handheld get a hold on the sats. before you put them on the dogs and start your hunt. These things are a bit peculiar about some things and those are just two of them. Mine work better than I ever expected they would....I really don't see how or why anyone would want to run dogs without one. It keeps you informed as to what your dogs are doing and where they are. Mine has saved me countless hours of time and a lot of cussin' and torment trying to find a dog.

X2 theres dogs I have and have had that I won't run without a tracking collar. I know back before garmins were around people did and still do but it makes it so much easier to locate dogs

I have not found enough issues to want anything else!!!

I know how to update the GPS unit but you guys talk about have collars up to date. What do y'all mean by this?

Collars have to be updated on the computer also.

Look in your instruction manual jmize,......it's all in there.....simple to do if you follow the instructions.
