Title: Hog killed dog Post by: Bowhunter1994 on June 28, 2013, 03:57:11 pm How is the number 1 way a dog dies to a hog? Is it the jugular vein?
Trying to prevent this from happening in the future as much as possible- thanks Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: floridahogdoghunter on June 28, 2013, 04:02:02 pm that and the guts and most of all the shock they get if you get a dog cut down do your best to keep it calm and not let it go into shock or it will most likely die
Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: jon on June 28, 2013, 04:23:43 pm like florida said, shock

Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: dodgegirl on June 28, 2013, 06:09:46 pm Had a catch dog die last night. Had only a few scrapes on him. He got knocked around pretty good so were assuming it was internal.

Iv done it and it helps never heard of this before lol Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: Cajun on June 28, 2013, 07:26:58 pm I lost two this year. One to overheating & one a cut to the jugular. Like said above, carry water or ringers with you. both are good if a dog gets cut down or he overheats. You have to get fluid put back into them.
Shock is also a big killer. I have lost two dogs that never had a mark on them also & I am thinking it was internal. I saw a young plott get hit by a big sow & she immediately bowed up. Took her to the vet & I was right. Busted spleen & more & she went into shock & died at the vets. The other a bulldog, We watched a big hog hit this dog going in & he caught the hog but he died three days later. Freak accidents or just unlucky. Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: Bowhunter1994 on June 28, 2013, 07:30:37 pm How does a dog get cut if they have a cut collar?
Does the juglar go up to their cheek? (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/29/ybabu6y4.jpg) Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: dodgegirl on June 28, 2013, 09:39:01 pm Hogs tusk can get under the cut collar.
Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: dub on June 28, 2013, 10:21:22 pm Number one killer of my dogs has always been old age and then cars. If you want to keep you dog safe then get a lap dog. Don't keep me safe either while you are at it. How about asking what is the number one way hogs kill peope to keep yourself safe. It is a dangerous world and you either live your life or you stay safe and then you never live. Same goes for dogs. You can lock them up and keep them safe or let them act like dogs.
Title: Re: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: BigCutters4 on June 28, 2013, 10:37:01 pm I've had dogs get hit in the neck w one tooth between the cut collar and vest bled out one stuck under arm pit under vest bled out one over heated, one hit by train chasing a big boar that was a bad exp.if there can be a freak accident in a dog dieing seems like I will unfortunately find

I have never lost a dog to heat exhaustion nor to a bad cut from a hog...but I have lost one to a train and had 1 or 2 stolen... :-X Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: boone823 on June 29, 2013, 08:02:44 am You ask how does a jugular get cut with a cut collar . Simple. I have had a big toothy bar hook a gyp behind the collar. Also had two huge holes in front of her cut collar. It can happen but a good cut collar reduces the area that can be cut.
Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: cantexduck on June 29, 2013, 11:11:26 am Nothing is cut proof.
I think heat is the biggest danger. It isn't hard to carry water with you. Hunt responsible. Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: louisianahogdogger on June 29, 2013, 11:30:47 pm That are carry you some pediolite or anything with a lot of electrolytes!
Title: Re: Hog killed dog Post by: Hamilton_hogger on June 30, 2013, 12:59:45 pm Not to mention the hooks they catch in armpit only lost one to a hog and thats cuz they vest was a little big make sure they fit good and this will also REDUCE major injuries.
