Title: Taking out some young 'uns tonite
Post by: KevinN on July 13, 2013, 09:49:23 pm
My dogs that had the coccidiosis are fine now. Bella has been eating for days and looks great, Jasper has his regular appetite back but needs a few more pounds put on so they are staying home for another week.

Gonna take out my Preacher Pup (blue tick)...9 months and my back up CD Pup Emmet (1/2 AB-1/2 Pitt)

Preacher is more or less my girls dog, it doesn't really matter to me if he turns into a dog or not. That being said I don't guess I would mind having 1 open dog i could hunt, lol. He hasn't turned on yet. Last time I showed him a pig he was 5 months and I got a couple bawls out of him but that was it......I haven't shown him a pig in 4 months. He's just going along for the ride really so Ill keep him in the truck till we get a bay and then turn him out. Don't really expect him to go to it but we'll see. Hopefully he'll at least show some interest once we get there. If nothing else he'll just get some exposure.

Only about 3-4 months in this pic

Emmet has caught a few times in the dog yard (1/4 acre wooded pen) and he was all business. No experience in the woods yet so this will be his first. He won't be lead dog obviously, Ill be unsnapping him behind Stone and I'm pretty positive he'll go in and catch right off the bat. He's really turning into a good looking dog. I'm guessing he's about 65lbs and still has a few months of growing yet.

Just so were straight...those are the only pics I had of the youngsters....they are 10 and 11 months now. I wouldn't take 4 and 5 month old puppies out to a real hunt, lol.

Well Preacher was raring to go....Emmett was fine till it was time to load up. Good Lord! Thought we'd been on a few "rides".....maybe not. Sittin here waitin on Blake and he's still a little spooked, lol. Funny how fast it will change. Before too many more trips he'll be all smiles and wags.  ;D

Bout 140-150 I guess. Got his ears to play with my pups. Emmett didn't go right away but as soon as he smelt the pig he took off. Caught on the snout.

that's a nice looking bull dog...and that bluetick pet could be the lead strike dog in another month or 2...  8)

this is a quick bluetick story...a man I know in South Texas has a friend that is the animal control officer and he is always on the lookout for a good catch dog or strike dog and keeps my friend with a good supply of dogs...

one day he calls and has a bluetick that this kid got for his birthday and couldn't be kept in town any longer so he was at the pound...this was a high dollar pup from a well known line of blueticks I was told...

Well the dog gets picked up from the pound and is taken on a hunt and he makes a trip around a corn field the some hood dogs... and the hood dogs strike and catch a hog in the corn patch...the bluetick goes with them and is baying pretty good...they drag the hog out next to the edge of the field and load the dogs back up...they continue the hunt around the field and as they come back to pick up the dead hog the bluetick strikes from the back of the truck and some are saying that he is baying the dead hog and some are saying no it is another hog...they turn the bluetick out and he goes and bays another hog...the moral of the story...don't bet against a well bred hound...  :)

hope that pup turns on like you want...

Well...Preacher didn't do much the rest of the hunt but it WAS some valuable experience and some good exercise, lol.

Emmett ended up getting whooped up on by a BIG sow in a nasty thicket, lol. No serious damage just a bruised ego. Not a bad day for his first outing though. See the story.
