Title: Mosquitos.
Post by: AnotherRunner on October 02, 2013, 06:49:45 am
After this rain they are HORRIBLE around the house. I can't walk outside without getting ate up. What's something I can spray that any of yall know about? Hate these things. Probably eating the dogs up as well

Man it is so bad at my house in china right now that yesterday I stopped and bought a can of mosquito fogger and 2 cans of deep woods off and sprayed my dog area and used 2 cans of off on my dogs, I feel terrible for them, im not one to baby them but when I can't barely go out and feed em because the mosquitos are so bad then there is a problem! they seemed to be alot more comfortable last night and I didn't hear any of em raising hell, I hope we get some relief soon because right now it is the worst i've ever seen! hell ive been on early season teal hunts that weren't as bad as my back yard is right now.

Cutters Backyard Bug Control. You hook it to a hose. Spray kennels, ceiling, barrels,
floors, Spray ground, bushes , trees . as much area as possible around the dogs.
Works great on my yard. Knocks mosquitoes down for a month at a time.

After I treat the area with the Backyard Bug Control I spray the dogs with Absorbine
Bugshield in the black bottle. The waterproof one.

No offense intended but i couldnt help but laughin when i read some of the above.  We deal with the damn things all year long in South Florida.  The county spends a ton of money on mosquito control, i mean old bomber planes, helecopters, and trucks drivin all over the county sprayin and it dont help.  Ive tried the stuff you spray with the hose, a fogger and NOTHING works.  Just gotta wait for the larvae to hatch and die off.

The best ive seen done is screen in your dog pens, that will help the dogs but not so much for you.

KID7 id invest the 20 bucks on a thermacell, i know i love mine when im huntin in the swamps.

Cutter yard spray...spray dogs down as well...at one time I would fog at dark and get up and fog at midnight again...the dogs would be howling and carrying on...
I keep 2 bottles of yard guard ready to go...I sleep better at night knowing my dogs are sleeping comfortably...I also spray my house and inside/outside my double garage...the stuff is awesome...been a believer since it came on the market...

lol bud I don't know if you've ever been to southeast texas but we aint much different than south florida. we've got yaupons, alligators skeeters and all, only difference is our "immigrants" come from the west  ;)........ they dust here in planes weekly for 9mths out of the year and run mosquito trucks  nonstop also. Make no mistake, we deal with them here year round to but this is the worst i've ever seen in my 26 years, may sound funny but I guarantee you it aint.

I been fighting them off with every trick I know.

Didn't help, I lost two really nicely bred pups in a few hours after the first bad rain down here a few weeks back. It rained at lunch time, and by 7pm when I got home from work one puppy was dead as a doornail and the other one made it thru the night in the bathtub but was so anemic and sickly I had to put it down so it wouldn't suffer to death while I was at work. Pretty freaking terrible this year...

The older dogs or on comfortis.

Spraying Pymethrin 10 all over the kennels, barrels, and dogs. That is at least giving the dogs some relief. Do it right before dark, and before I go to bed. They are just about as bad as they were after Rita here during the day. If they don't let up pretty quick, prob gonna run some fans out at kennels to help the dogs out.

Chad, I make sure and spray late enough in the morning after the morning dew has evaporated...and then I make sure to spray early enough that it has time to dry before the fog sets in...

some bottles will go empty and maintain a consistent insecticide to water ration and just try to guesstimate a bottle to 5000 square ft...some bottles seem to dilute and you will wind up spraying a diluted spray and that will not work for repelling mosquito's...

when done correctly the spray will last long enough to outlast the mosquito life cycle...but even if I have to spray twice it is worth the trouble when the dogs are laid up and sleeping hard catching up on their sleep...

How good does the Thermacell work? Do you have to stay still for it to work?

The pads last all day, and the gas refil cartridges last through a few of the pads.  They work for an "area" so to speak.  They wont work if your runnin through the woods.

They are the best thing to happen to marsh hunting(deer & duck), ever ever!!!!! Doesn't bother the deer at all. It has made it comfortable to hunt. I run two of them while in the stand, and very rarely get bit. You can absolutely tell an immediate difference when one goes out.

I can get about 3 hours out of one pad. One butane lasts about two pads for me. I buy my own aerosol butane can, an refill my butane. Super cheap and easy. YouTube got several videos on how to do it.
