Title: Shooting Hogs
Post by: grittydog on October 22, 2013, 06:33:06 pm
With a 45 Auto would it be better to use Hollow Points or a FMJ? Most shots should be close up Head shots. What do yall think.

Soft lead points an hollow points just make the shot count bud.. I use a 410 slug our a 20g slug for hogs all the time bud..

X2. A missed placed shot with a FMJ is more likely to pass through, and that could be a bad deal with dogs

point blank, any .45 will devastate the head. even at 3-5yds will cause so much damage to the head, it wont go nowhere, but lay down for a dirt nap.

No FMJ. Any soft or HP will work. I have killed plenty with a .22 to the skull. But I prefer a 22mag over the 22lr.

Ive killed a ton with a well placed 22lr.  Have a bunch of different options just always liked the 22 with hollow points for close work.  Dont have to worry about over penetration.

I've carried a 45 auto for years now and shot quite a few. Always shot solid lead, light loads. Never had a problem with them. Most hogs go straight to the ground, and most that I've shot were big boars in places it wasn't safe to get to them with bulldogs. I will also carry a 44 mag rifle at times, and have used it some. Just make sure there is nothing behind the hog. Most of the time I use the rifle I'm unable to get real close to shoot point blank with pistol.
