Title: What would you do? Post by: pig snatcher on March 11, 2008, 10:45:32 am What would you do if the hog your dogs were running crossed a country road, while your dogs were in the road some idiot comes barreling allong and despite you flashing your lights and flagging to slow down they keep coming no intentions of slowing down or going around the dogs. They are content to just maintain speed and run them over. Would you just let them run them over or would you do something?
Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Sean on March 11, 2008, 12:06:06 pm i would want the chance to tell that person just how i felt about their callous actions, and i'll leave my response at that.
just one thing, i'll leave this thread up for now. but i hope everyone exercises some common sense when responding to this . not everything is meant to be said on a public forum. just don't put anything up that you know i'll have to take down please... Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Circle C on March 11, 2008, 12:18:32 pm I will relate a little story here.
I was in a situation where I needed to unload a horse along the side of the road. It was dark outside. I had my flashers on. As the horse steps out of the trailer, he side stepped into the road. A car was coming at us at a pretty good clip. I was freaking out. About 40' before the car got to us, they climbed all over the brakes. Skidded to a stop within 10' of us. I was fuming, until I realized that the lady driving the car was freaked out too. She actually did not see the horse until she hit the brakes. All ended well. other than getting our hearts racing. But from everything I saw, it looked like she was heading straight to hit the horse, and was not slowing down. Even though my hazards were on to indicate trouble. Do you think that there is a chance this person did not see your dogs, and was wondering what the heck you were flashing your lights for? Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: slimpickins on March 11, 2008, 02:06:01 pm I agree Sean, a little visit to express my concern for thier callous actions. ;D
Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: BRUTE on March 11, 2008, 03:31:52 pm There is nothing you can do but hope that if they did it on purpose Karma gets a hold of them. ;)
We actually run our dogs down a county road because the ranch is on both sides. Some times we get some traffic but every one has always been good about slowing down when they see the rigs and us with lights. Title: Re: What would you do? Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: mley1 on March 11, 2008, 11:17:30 pm Well, I've been run over by a truck doing 60mph. Danged near killed me. I sure wouldn't want it to happen to a dog. All you can do is try to warn the driver the best way you can. And, if the worst happens try to remain calm enough to take care of your dog. I doubt if the law would be on your side as far as if it was the drivers fault. Most of the time in a vehicle animal collision the owner of the animal doesn't have much recourse, and may even be found responsible for his animals actions.
Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: kp on March 12, 2008, 12:13:46 am Please allow me to be contrarian.
I was driving down a country road one day, and some idiot (your words, not mine) had dogs all over the road! He was flashing his lights, and I did my best to avoid anything, but before I knew it it was too late. Fortunately I did not damage my vehicle, so I kept driving. Put yourself in the drivers shoes, and let's just say your dog being in the road caused a couple $1000 damage to the vehicle from either hitting them, or swerving to avoid them. Or maybe they were lucky and their kid only spilled icecream all over their new car? There are two (or more) sides to each and every story. I'm just branching out here. If your dogs were hurt or killed, I offer my sincere regrets. But, do you take ownership of any of this? Respectfully, kp Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: pig snatcher on March 12, 2008, 05:05:12 am No KP none were injured. YES, it was our native subspecies of idiot. ;D That is not the point though, didnt ask why they didnt slow down, dont care whos fault or what ever it is.
Just asked would you stand there or do something. Come on realdogs, give my pot lickers a little credit, not much, just a little. ;D ;D |
