Title: Purty good hog Post by: BobbyB on August 14, 2009, 07:07:58 pm Thursday afternoon, my wife and I drove to Cleveland to get my YBMC from JLH. He had mentioned going on a hunt when I got there and since I have not been dogging since about '83, I took him up on the offer.
Met Jason at his house, met his family and then we headed out for the hunt while Karla went back to the room in town. After a long night, we bumped a good boar coming out of a rice field. I could see ivory showing as he duck into the brush. Jason , his boy Matt, and nephew Cody turned a pair of dogs loose and it was on. Jason had already warned me the hogs there ran a lot and sure enough, about a mile plus later , they got him stopped. We had circled around to get close as possible, Cody took Bull, the CD in and we headed across a nasty clearcut to a much nastier briar tangle. Jason said send Bull and it was sure 'nuff on. We could hear everything and see nothing. He was up under a downed sweetgum tree and we could see where they were, but couldnt see the dogs or hog. The boar finally drug the dogs out a ways where we could see and finally, Jason legged him and he and Cody flipped him. He had been tore up under his armpit pretty7 bad and it was decided to kill him. I took some pics of Bull up under the hog never giving an inch on the ear, but you cant see much. We figured him to weight between 185-200. 2 1/4" on the left and 2 1/2 " on the right. Jason I enjoyed the hunt with you and your family, Matt, Cody and Ashley, who made every step we did last night. The crew ready and waiting (http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc3/3britts/hog2.jpg) The hog and the little fellow that caused it all to happen. (http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc3/3britts/hog1.jpg) I have no idea why, but you can see the fog or steam or whatever. But if you can see thru it, you can see the hog and Bull. Title: Re: Purty good hog Post by: JLH on August 14, 2009, 08:46:32 pm Bobby had a good time but next time it is yours to leg. That was one on the worst spots to try to catch a hog as I have ever seen you couldnt get to the hog because of so much pushedup timber from where they had been logging. Im glad we got out with as little damage as we did just wished we could of bayed a little earlier
