Title: Dogo ears Post by: jpuckett on December 26, 2013, 10:44:04 pm We had our first litter of dogos. I know it's my decision on cropping ears. But that's not the reaps for this thread. What I'd like to know is if everyone that crops dogo ears, crops males only. And is that the breed standard? Or is that just a trend? Do some people also crop females? I'd appreciate your input :-)

I was curious about the same thing. Maybe it was just the look preference of the originators? I don't see CD's ears getting ripped in general enough (I know it HAS happened, just not often) for me to have figured they did it for that reason. Most common CD injuries I've seen are elsewhere than anywhere near the top of their head/ears. I guess the originators would know best. Title: Re: Dogo ears Post by: halfbreed on December 27, 2013, 10:54:14 am yes only thing I see is if it is in the breed standard and like someone said you wanted to show them crop them . but when a dog catches in the mud and the muck those ears keep a lot of trash and potential problems out of the ear canal . and then there are them hard headed dogs I like to give a twist to them ears when they don't listen lol .

Again, that said, I didn't crop mine, and don't think it's of great significance either way. I hadn't thought of the ears keeping junk out. That's one plus of not cropping. I had a crop eared dogo at one time, and I can say that the public looked at her very differently than my natural eared male. So for me it's a plus that I can take them out in public without seeing the fear of God in people's eyes.
