Title: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on December 29, 2013, 03:25:31 pm So I ordered a go pro and a collar from southern style. Had a buddy that used one....I liked the footage he got. I also think it can teach you a bit about your dogs. Anyway, that same buddy lost his camera off his dog but that was with a home made base....still....I don't think the problem was the base.
Anyone running a go pro on their dog? Made any modifications to try and make sure you don't lose the camera? I have thought about using a very short wire/shock cord....maybe even super glue on the mounting point. Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: halfbreed on December 29, 2013, 03:38:54 pm you got you a go pro kev ? I was looking at them the other day and they had what they called a key chain camera it was a small little unit and looked pretty cool .

Sonny Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on December 29, 2013, 07:01:44 pm What about the actual mount? I mean where the camera attaches to the mount? Did you do anything specific?
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: Shotgun wg on December 29, 2013, 07:14:35 pm I posted a link to the southern style collars in the video section on here. There is small cable that should have came with ur go pro that u can run thru the lead loop on the collar for a backup incase the mount breaks or a screw comes out or anything.
Here's the link http://www.southernstylecutgear.com/#!cutgear/c235j it is the last one on the page at bottom. If the mount breaks or the attachment point to the housing breaks, the 550 cord will at least keep the camera n housing tied to the collar
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on December 29, 2013, 07:38:44 pm Yeah...already thought about that Charles, lol. That is my back up plan.

http://www.southernstylecutgear.com/#!product/prd1/1436089631/gopro-cut-collar The one I saw that Jessica and Joey had had a small steel cable run thru the go pro. It had a little hole or something on the corner I think. That cable went thru the D ring behind the camera mount. U can see the ring in the pics. I did nothing special but bolt it to the collar. If it gets broke off then no big deal. I am in search of something I can wear on my head that is better than the GoPro... Anybody know of any?
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: Shotgun wg on December 29, 2013, 11:19:01 pm Have u looked at the garmin virb. Not sure if it's better or not. It looks smaller. 1080P but it also has the fisheye lens like the go pro. The fisheye helps get wider shots and keeps u from missing the action but at 10 steps looks like 30 to me. Main thing I don't like about these things. I don't own either so my opinion probly ain't worth much. May be worth looking at.

If you go to you tube and punch "rocket hog doggers" into the search bar....that's not a bad video. I also think they can give you some insight into your dogs. Bay style....do they get gritty, etc. That dog in that video we all thought bayed real loose and wouldn't put his mouth on a hog. You see in the video...he is pretty loose but at one point when the hog breaks, he puts teeth on the hog to stop it. I'm gonna give it a try anyway. Also...one of the things I like the most is the wifi. With your iPhone you can actually pull footage from hunt, nearly live (3 second delay) footage. I'm really interested in that. Talk about an edge! Title: Re: Post by: Fixitlouie on December 30, 2013, 05:15:36 pm I just watched the video. I think its a cool deal but the quality esp. When dog was running was kinda poor.jmo

I am considering trying this harness out, just don't know how it will hold up. Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on December 30, 2013, 07:36:30 pm I like that ^^^^^

I am just looking for something better to wear on my head to record bays and catches. Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: charles on December 30, 2013, 10:57:45 pm Have u thought bout checking them spy gear shops? They carry a lot of cams n other spy related things, they may carry a good quality high megapixal cam
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on January 07, 2014, 05:36:33 pm Got my camera today and been tinkering with it. Testing out the battery life while it's in the wifi mode.
I've got to say...I'm pumped about trying it out. That wifi with the app on your iPhone is awesome....from what I see so far ;D It's a 3 second delay (you can adjust) and it shows "LIVE ACTION" (turtle man reference)....anyway....can't wait till my collar comes in so I can give it a try. Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on January 07, 2014, 10:17:15 pm Ok....so check this out ;D
The wifi app...you can use from ANY PHONE!! Meaning....if you have the camera name and password, you can see live feed from ANY PHONE! You can be sitting at home watching your buddies dog hunt!! :o Also....this app does give the option of "camera locate". What it does is make the camera beep real loud. Just in case the camera does come off....you can walk your dogs track and listen for the beep (till the battery runs out). So that's a little bit of security. This thing is cool. Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on January 11, 2014, 02:05:08 pm After further testing....the wifi only has a 30ft range from the camera....so not as "cool" as I thought.
Still...the wifi/app allows you to view footage right away....out on site, after you load the dogs up. Looking forward to the first daylight hunt so I can check it out. Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: Reuben on January 11, 2014, 03:34:04 pm Kevin...I wouldn't use super glue....it probably will break off on impact...I would only use epoxy glue...
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on January 11, 2014, 03:42:06 pm Looking at this thing now Reuben....I see NO WAY that it comes off unless it's BROKEN by a hard impact. Only thing that would help there would be a shock cord. Even though it will cut down on battery life.... I'm still gonna run it with wifi turned on because I can use the camera locate feature if it comes up missing. Anyway....I'll be trying it out next weekend.
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: Bo Pugh on January 11, 2014, 05:09:51 pm I bought a go pro a while back and I like it as far as me wearing it. I still haven't figured out all about the wifi and it takes me a while to figure out how to upload my videos. Maybe I'll get better at it this year. The one I got is the hero 3 black edition it takes good footage
Title: Re: Go pro modifications Post by: KevinN on January 26, 2014, 10:10:20 am Well....got a little " live action" yesterday. My Bluetick Pup Preacher got his first strike and my Bella gyp was able to put the breaks on a pig that was running with a group. Hopefully I'll learn this thing a little more and get some better footage.

They record in 720p High Definition, work exceptionally good for the price. They recharge via USB and record to what ever size micro SD card you have. I have a video I will see if I can find of the first time I used them.
