I got a cur pup 6 months old that I kept off a litter of 10 pups. 8 of the pups that I got rid of are no problem. The male I kept and a female I gave to MrsLouisianaHogDog  Do Not  like to be touched.
They are not skid dish. They are happy, tail waggin, follow you anywhere dogs. They won't run off on you, They just don't want to be touched. When it comes time to put mine up , I open the kennel door
and walk in first and he follows me in waggin his tail. He comes to me when I call him but right out of
touching range. If I do want to handle him, I'll step towards him and he will lay down waggin his tail.
Never had a dog that just hates being touched. I started walking him on a lead and he's doing fine. I'm trying treats to get him to come ALL THE WAY to me but the jury is still out on that. Maybe
MrsLouisianaHogDog can comment on her female pup. I didn't mean to hijack your thread but I figured
I could relate to your dilemma.

Time....time....time!

If he's on a chain that's good. Grab the chain and pull the dog to you at feeding time. Just pet on it for a few seconds every day. Try treats too. Eventually it may come around.

If the man told you that you wouldn't catch him if he got off his chain then how would it make a pen dog?do you want to chase him down every time you put him in pen?

The pup jimco is referring to, I started off with her in a kennel here. I quickly realized that that was a bad deal for her, because she would constantly hight tail it to her dog house and hide until I turned my back, lol, then she'd be right behind me. I decided to move her to a nice light puppy chain spot to see if that would help with her confidence. I have indeed noticed improvement in her over all demeanor since being on a chain. She is VERY confident when I watch her from afar, and barks ALOT lol. It's just when I approach her head on, she commando crawls away from me as fast as she can, but then I turn my back to her, and there she is right behind me lol. I've just been doing a lot of baby talking, and when I pour her feed, I grab her chain and pull her to me and talk to her and pet her whether she likes it or not. I'm just being patient with her and not letting her ever feel any negative or frusterated energy from me during this process or I feel she will regress. A lot of patience.

great point...pups and dogs can not be fooled...get in the right frame of mind like MrsLouisianaHogDog is saying any time you mess with the pup...the more time you can spend with it the better...as far as making a completion bay dog I don't think it can compete with the best because of this shyness....just my feeling...
