Title: well i did it !!
Post by: halfbreed on February 11, 2014, 12:18:18 pm
just joined whatever century this is and ordered a garmin 320 combo and 3 extra collars . now I must say my behind puckered up a bit at charging all this technology  lol  and being technologically challenged  I may have a ton of questions when they arrive , but must keep up or fall behind . if I was still in the farmland I doubt I would have done it but here in east texas they are pretty much a necessity if you plan on running much . there aren't any farm roads to head the dogs off in these damn trees   lol

and I must add as I have stated before support the ones that support the board and I ordered all my stuff from buddy at du supply I also subscribed to his new HOUNDSMAN MAGAZINE  which he is putting out , should be interesting  .

Buddy is helluva good guy and probably knows more about Garmin then the folks at Garmin. ;D

If you have any problems or questions... give him a call if no one on here can help.

You say you just joined what ever century this is...LOL    I have a 320 with birdseye view and 4 collars and don't even
know how to work them. I'm 51 yrs. old. with bad knees. When ever we get a chance to hunt my son or nephew works the electronics and the knife. I provide backup with a pistol and guard the refreshments.

It's my own fault for not learning how to use it. My son has a job that he hardly ever has time off. My nephew works
all over the country, never home anymore, so it's time I learn how to use it.

Next year you will wonder how you got by without a Garmin after all these years.  In the meantime you get mad about tracking a dog 700 yds and losing another at 400 yds.  But, as mad as you'll get, nobody will be able to take it out of your hands and you wont go to the woods without it.

I honestly don't see how one could hunt without them or some kind of tracking system now days. About 5 out of 10 hunts dogs come bayed and we can't even think about hearing them due to the distance or just the wind. I don't think I would have many dogs left without it.

I hunt with some older guys their over 60years old and they have learned how to use them. Once you get the hang of them it's a piece of cake and you will be wondering how you ever hunted without them

used to be blowing the horn most the night...hollering in all directions until I was hoarse...then the tracking system got popular and at least I knew which direction to walk and holler...I am a little behind but I am starting to like my second hand 220...  :)

I know most of the older guys can relate to looking for dogs longer then you actually hunted them or trying to cut off a deer running trashy dog. Like said above when telemetry came out, it was the best thing since sliced bread.
Also went from hoofing it, to a 3 wheeler to a 4 wheeler.  A lot of changes over the years.
Yes Halfbreed, you are going to love that 320.

If they would of had the Garmin when I was running them walker dogs during coon hunting years ago Halfbreed I could of saved a lot of walking and leaving my jacket behind. I think my dogs associated the horn blowing with its time to go home and just ran further.

you say that and hell now days so do I lol BUT not too many years ago we hunted without any type of tracking system and did just as good then as we do now, our tracking system was 1 walker dog that I guess you would call semi open, he didn't sound off much, maybe every 3-4 hundred yards but he was loud enough that we could hear him most of the time and when we didn't hear him anymore we would simply ease towards the last direction we heard him and sure enough sooner or later you would hear him again. his name was amos but I shoulda called him beacon lol because you could bet your ass that when the other dogs came bayed you would know where they were because of his mouth......loudest dang dog ive ever owned but he was a good un.

.........sometimes I almost want to go back to those days, I miss being in the woods and actually seeing the woods instead of constantly catching my self staring at that dang garmin like its fixing to do a trick lol.
