Title: Raising a piglet....advice? Post by: justincorbell on February 16, 2014, 06:55:11 pm Not really any particular questions but does anyone have any advice as far as raising a week or so old piglet? Got him drinkin milk replacer already and trying to eat dog food. He has made friends with our jack russell pup and has calmed down good so far.

Post by: charles on February 16, 2014, 07:00:35 pm u seem to have the basics under control. if u plan on keeping him in the house for a long while. get him a litter box and put his droppings in there n when u catch him fixn to p, put him in the litter box and keep him in there till he does his business. if possible build him a pen around the litter box n let him live in the box.

Ate dog food. Think he even liked cereal. He was molesting my cat pups Weiner thinking it was his momma's tit. Pig had to go. That catahoula was finding hogs n baying at 6 months he hated them so bad after that.

Title: Re: Raising a piglet....advice? Post by: justincorbell on February 16, 2014, 07:19:36 pm Thanks for all the advice folks. Im not gonna keep him inside for too long, i'll build him a pen once i think he is big enough to get by on his own outside.
I will say this, he is one loud gruntin/squealin little thing, only time he stops is when he lays down. Title: Re: Raising a piglet....advice? Post by: LAhogger84 on February 16, 2014, 07:22:43 pm Yea they r loud. He bit me once or twice I think

I will say this, he is one loud gruntin/squealin little thing, only time he stops is when he lays down. they r some squealers. the 1 I brought hm from the bumpers tourney came inside for several wks. he still had part of his embilical cord attached. put him in a small dog cage and give him replacer and for the first couple days, he didn't drink. bout day 3 he figured it out. bout day 6, when I would come in from work or get up to go to work, he figured out that squealing till he got fed is what did the trick. he got so bad that when I opened the cage to pour his replacer/dog food mix in, he wouldn't wait for me to pour it before he was in the bowl. after a couple wks, he went out with the other piglets and he would NOT stop the squealing and got the other piglets and bacon to squealing for food. he didn't last much longer. he became a whole fryer. ;D |
