Title: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on August 29, 2009, 10:21:12 am Took Hornet to the vet this morn to get a weight....He just turned 7 months old and weighed 82 pounds!
Ya'll that have raised large breed dogs......what do you think this guy will weigh at full grown?.....I was thinking about 100 pounds when he was a pup, but at this weight/age I think he may go larger..... ??? In shape workin wieght. I got an American bulldog dogo cross her parents where huge. She around 5-6 months old weights 50. What u think she will go when grown
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on August 29, 2009, 11:00:05 am I'd guess about the same for yours based my dogs weights.....
but a guess is just that..... Hornet's lineage is anywhere from 85-115 pounds working/hunting weight with his great grandfather on RIP's side being 145 pounds hunting weight. Getting over 100 pounds hunting weight may limit his brush ability/speed and will make it a huge pain in my arse if I gotta carry his butt out of somewhere! :o :D Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: dabutcher on August 29, 2009, 11:21:01 am holy hell you ain't kidding........ :o that sucker got big in a hurry.
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Caughtandhobbled on August 29, 2009, 11:22:42 am Now that is one good looking dog, he will be huge....You had better keep those big vest. Later...

About 110-120#s most large breed folks say 10#s per month in relation to mature weight. Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Mike on August 29, 2009, 02:39:38 pm I'd guess around 125#.
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: olde sarge on August 29, 2009, 03:46:52 pm Man, what a good looking dog. I think Mike hit it right on the head. My Bully/Dane is averaging 5lb/month. And yours will grow at least till 15 months. What is the breed makeup of that beauty?
John Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on August 29, 2009, 06:51:02 pm John,
The female he came from is Ugly Dog's (Krystal Rohan) "LUCY-LOU" who is a pure dogo who has proven herself as a great CD and one to thro awesome CD pups. His father is "RIP" owned by the Bloom Brothers from Australia and is a mix of pit, stag, irish wolfhound, mastiff, and a little dane. RIP is a RCD with a semi-load of big boars under his belt. Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: southtexasff on August 29, 2009, 07:28:39 pm Was this an AI or which dog went where? Good looking pup.

All you can do is yell at the bulldog and try and drag the pig out wiht the dog attached just to flip it. 120 lbs of extra dead weight would make me cry. even worse when the dog thinks its the pig pulling away and he digs in and starts pulling you into the brush. Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on August 30, 2009, 12:26:57 am SouthTexasff,
RIP was sent over here to hunt and we ended up keeping him almost a year before he was sent to Africa to hunt wharthogs. Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: southtexasff on August 30, 2009, 11:29:07 am Sounds like a helluva dog, got any pics?
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Bigl on August 30, 2009, 12:33:53 pm He arrived at Cody's place once I decided I wasn't gonna buy him from Greg Bloom! :D
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: mradel on August 30, 2009, 01:57:34 pm Its hard to say how big he will get. For example L3's dog Capstick was the same height, and size at 6 months old as he was full grown. At 6 months old Capstick was 90lbs, but only 105 at two years old. My Bullydane is 25'' tall and only 65lbs at six months old. I would bet he will not reach full grown till two years old. He could just be a fast growing dog and not get much bigger, or he could grow till he is two and be almost as big as a pure Dane. I wouldn't worry about the brush much. If he is raised and hunted in it his hole life he will find his own way to move fast through it. Getting him out may be another story.

Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on August 31, 2009, 05:34:34 pm I plan to hunt them close range packs of RCD's 2-4 on ground at once......That is the plan......My goal is effective hog removal on small properties.

Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on September 01, 2009, 12:54:26 pm I just got an e-mail from Craig Bloom. He said that RIP & BLACK caught their first hog in Africa this week. He reported that they are hard fighters (and very fast) and took both dogs to get it. No other details.....
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: mradel on September 01, 2009, 01:02:38 pm Cody, are they catching Bushpigs or Wharthogs?
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on September 01, 2009, 01:07:34 pm Craig said wharthogs.
Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: mradel on September 01, 2009, 03:46:42 pm I don't think a Wharthog can cut up a dog, but you can watch cheeta's and leopard's having to tough time catching them on the NGC.

Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: Black Gold on December 10, 2009, 08:04:26 am If it would ever stop raining I'd get some good pics to post.
Took Hornet to vet yesterday. He is 10 1/2 months old and weighed 90 pounds. He is at hunting weight now and ready for January. At 7 months old he was pretty heavy (at 82 pounds) in the belly but have cut down RAW by half over the last 3 months and upped the exercise. I imagine with his lineage that he may thicken to add 10 pounds or so over the next year, but dont think he'll go much over 100 at a finished hunting weight. We shall see.... READY FOR DEER SEASON TO END!!!!!! Title: Re: HORNET hit a growth spurt! Post by: dabutcher on December 10, 2009, 09:06:19 am i seen em parked over at the Bar-b-que place yesterday..... he's lookin dang good Cody. you put him on many pigs yet??
