Had to watch a dad tell his 10 year old son his dog wasn't coming back this time because a 9 foot gator drug her under last night. It was that boys first hog dog raised her from a pup and she was coming on strong. I can't stand a dang gator!!! The whole thing happened right in front of us as we tryed to call back to the edge.

Yea I'm central Florida every time you hear water splash your heart drops. Unfortunately most the hogs around here run straight to water. Gator never grabs the hog

If you see one gator you run in and hit that water splashing clapping and raising hell, they'll leave, if its several well, gotta try something to get your dogs out in a jiffy.

Should this go under the witch craft thread I saw a couple days ago?  lol

They are alligators, not Nile crocodiles, more often than not they will be less than 6 foot and are scared off relatively easily.

With the gators out here...if you go to splashing  around in the water, they think it's prey of some sort and it will actually attract them in most cases....

All I'm saying is IN MOST CASES the gator ain't gonna be a monster man eater. if you see your dog in immediate danger, you bring the fight to the gator (with tree branches, rocks, dog leads, whatever you have) they will punk out and move on. Gators are regular ol wild animals, not game animals who will fight to the death in most cases. Ive seen (and felt) a big ol gator or two tuck tail and try like heck to get back to deep water

I agree with T-bob I live in south Louisiana and I know gators like dogs but are not likely to attack people!! I swam around them as a kid the only swimming pool we had was the bayou that we trapped gators in during trapping season!!

Shooting into the lake or river will help with the gators as well...

We hunt old mine property so we got some monsters. Been huntin there for years first time its happened to me. We avoid the pits with aggressive gators in warm weather and thought we would be OK but we were wrong last night. It happens but were working on getting the collar back and given that youngun some piece of mind. I trapped for the state for a little while and my experience with Gators is if they have the opportunity they will take it nothing you can do or say to stop em other than lead to the skull.

One of my cow dogs about got caught a few weeks ago. She went down into a ditch next to a big culvert to get a drink and a pretty decent one came out of that culvert going to her. I bailed off in the ditch on my horse and the gator hauled ass back into that culvert. As long as they are afraid of humans then they will get gone quick.
