Title: Collie, cat, AB cross
Post by: Nannyslayer on March 20, 2014, 12:17:31 am
Anyone ever have any collie cross dogs for hogs? Reason I ask is, we recently got a 1/2 cat, 1/4 AB, 1/4 collie from a very trusted gentleman. He has 4 litter mates to this dog, and says they are all you need for hog dogs, and after watching this dog hunt and catch, I'm starting to agree with him.

The dog has a decent nose on him, huge frame, a basketball head, and is colored like a catahoula. The one thing I really notice is, his actions and how he moves is like a collie. He is like a 80 lb tom cat, can twist and turn like no other. I was a little reluctant to try this dog , but he is going to be a good one.

Just wondering if anyone else has had anything close to this mix up of breed.

Here he is. Nothing for size reference but this dog is big built with a pumpkin head on him.

Collie or border collie would be interesting.  Adding the agility of a sheep herder, with a heavy bone structure.  That's a win.

Collie is a common cross here as is kelpie and in New Zealand herding dog crosses are very popular.  The Kiwi's hunt some mean country and catch good boars.

I'm running border collie x cat.. AWSOME dogs. Always used Australian shepards and border collies for cows and crossed my good collie with cat and ended up with some gritty and rough dogs. And they can run a hole in the wind! Pretty much strait catch tho.

Good lookin dog Middleton!

Starky, the dog I have pictured, is working out to be a heck of a dog. Hasn't run the wrong game yet, and he's had plenty of opportunities too. Did have to get the trash breaker out on him a little with the calves, although I don't think he meant any harm, he's big enough and stout enough to do some damage on young calves.

Going to take him out in the morning. Hopefully can report back with some more good stories about him.
