Title: Fun with wood Post by: MrsLouisianaHogDog on March 28, 2014, 06:00:39 pm I've been doing pyrography in my spare time, and have been having a lot of fun with it. Just thought I'd share some of my stuff with anyone who may be interested. I primarily do dogs, but I can do almost anything.

I notice you don't shade much, Do you not have a control panel for temp? straight plug? not saying you have to! just asking? I use to have a cheap one but that got me into dumping cash into the burning ,carving, engraving hobby kits. Now with the right tools i produce some great art. When hunting in a blind i like carving and engraving, and drawing up anything i see in the woods. Some hog hunters are creative individual when coming up with new equipment or when putting there mind to something that creative. only specking about some of us..

You will learn that unlike a straight plug pen there is no need to press harder, just turn up the dial to darken shade, lower the dail for the lighter shades.. I highly recommend getting used to your machine's heat settings, as this will help you later when creatiing pictures faster. sand paper and engraving tools can be real helpful if you mess up.. any tip can be used but small Curved Concave is a fast way to learn to shape , heat control is most important .. If you have a knife burning tip i use that for around wet sap or knotted areas because it's easier to move though .. If you have any ? just ask I'll fill you in. Make a shade chart keeping track of the heat dails hotest dark burns to coldest light burns. Hope this will be helpful. Some folks like them like that but I'd fear that when I'm getting ready to wedge the stick in, I could potentially cut the gums with that point. @Rueben Thanks for the compliment! @Muddog Thank you! That was all very helpful! I will get a blank piece to practice on. My old cheapy pen didn't have heat settings, but this new Versa Tool does, so I was trying to get that figured out as well. I'm a fan of all working dogs... :) but I sure do like that macho buck picture...and I would like to breed a mt cur to one just like him but at about 60 pounds working weight and then breed it down to a quarter to 1/8th and keep it that way for putting just a little more stop on those runners... :) Title: Re: Fun with wood Post by: WayOutWest on March 31, 2014, 10:53:35 pm I got to Judge ol Buck in a dog show in Liberty 8 or 9 years ago. Chico brought him out to show him off a little. It was my lucky day as that was the weekend I met ol T-dog and got the invite to come down huntin. Been showin up on T-dog doorstep ever since!
