Title: Dang javelinas Post by: Mpbarrs on April 06, 2014, 09:42:02 pm Went out with the crew for a run early Saturday morning since the weather was gonna be right . Turned the dogs out close to the river and there weren't hitting on much . Bout 30 mins in my Dogo and Plott with my buddies other 3 dogs were on something . Get close and see the dogs in some thick cane but still working a scent , notice the Dogo had a nice gash ( about 14 staples on the back of her neck and a whole on her jaw u could put a 50 cent pice in) then they winded again and they were gone . Bout 250 yards away something was caught making a god awful racket . Getting closer I was thinking they caught some kinda bobcat but it was them dang over grown rats and he was not backing down . But the Dogo , red cur, and pit stretched him out but he did leave all em leaking lol

I'm currently in south west texas ( Laredo) and there like hogs out here ( lot of em). I know you are only allowed two per year limit and your not supposed to run dogs on them , we weren't trying for one but it happen I will look up the regs about trap and transport (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/07/a8e8etag.jpg)

Make a god awful racket like you say, they wil leave a bunch of holes all over your dogs and also tear off chunks of skin cause they will grab and shake like a bulldog too! Im just north of larado and they're plentyfull here too.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: muleskinner on April 07, 2014, 09:17:16 am Bo are you sure you want those dog crippling machines. They r terrible on dogs back legs when they don't bust up. They r protected except for a small season and r illegal to hunt with dogs. If you want some I'm more than happy to grant you your wish but the fine fore dealing with them is high. I hate them with a passion.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: HairyHolder on April 07, 2014, 10:39:14 am My property is covered in those sob's. I have videos of them jumping in the air and biting a arrow in half after being shot. Just remember they are a game animal and can't be dogged or shot with a rimfire.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: dodgegirl on April 07, 2014, 11:13:43 am Being in south fl, I don't have to deal with them. But I've always heard it's best to steer clear of them. They say that one will take down a good pack of dogs.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Handle_It on April 07, 2014, 03:07:20 pm Out here West of Midland Ive had several encounters, not on purpose just happens. I treat the dogs the same way as if it was livestock NO NO!
A havi is trash in my mind and I try to keep dogs away from them because like said they are some bad suckers and will put a hurtin on your pack. Usually they role around in packs over here and you have to be carefull!! Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: justincorbell on April 07, 2014, 03:28:05 pm there was a pretty funny video floatin around online a few years ago. Some guys in s Texas had dogs turned out hunting and were at the trucks, next thing you know the dogs were haulin arse back to the truck and a whole wad (20+) of those little devils was right behind em chasin them dogs, the javi's ran the dogs all the way back to the bed of the truck, it was pretty funny BUT if those things woulda got ahold of one dog it woulda gone south REAL fast.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: buddylee on April 07, 2014, 06:59:48 pm Why the heck would you want to bring them east ? Sounds stupid to me. I doubt they can survive out of the desert.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Reuben on April 07, 2014, 07:17:27 pm they are bad on a dog for sure...but the females are sure some excellent eating...female javalina in carne guisada is some mighty good eating...they are usually loaded down with fleas...
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Bowhunter1994 on April 08, 2014, 06:51:48 pm Mean little pests!!!
I haven't had a dog mess with one YET! But I've heard stories on them dog killers! These javis can actually turn around and bite there arse unlike a hog!! Sonny Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: KevinN on April 08, 2014, 07:15:54 pm The "collared Peccary"......locally known as the Javelina. Game species in Texas. Two per year limit. Smell something awfull when your gutting/skinning them. Will definitely wreck a dog.
Don't have cutters/whetters......have LONG canines, male and female both. That old movie "Home from the Hills" I think it was called. It had something in it with a dog or two and a "Peccary" Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Bo Pugh on April 08, 2014, 07:28:14 pm Why the heck would you want to bring them east ? Sounds stupid to me. I doubt they can survive out of the desert. Well I'm thinking about getting a few all I can tell you is I guess you better hope they don't make it up your way. I think it would be a little excitement hearing all the stories around town from all these professional hog hunters about the wrecking ball they got on that morning. And over the last few years hog hunting has boomed over here around here and I bet these things would cull some of these peoples 200yard alligator dogs out. Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Bowhunter1994 on April 08, 2014, 10:20:46 pm Illegal to trap and transport fellas...
Sonny Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Bowhunter1994 on April 08, 2014, 10:21:44 pm You need a permit

And over the last few years hog hunting has boomed over here around here and I bet these things would cull some of these peoples 200yard alligator dogs out. you will probly end up with a BIG ol fine for transporting a game animal illegally across state lines.............just remember all it takes is for the wrong folks to read this. look into I believe its called the "lacy act" regarding wildlife transportation before you go through with anything. One random question, ??? Why as a fellow hog hunter would you like or want to see other peoples "alligator dogs" get culled out? Sounds kinda messed up to attempt to bring in an animal with the intent of killing/maiming other hunters dogs.........regardless of rough/gritty/ loose/ long / short range we are all hog hunters, no need to intentionally do something to try to hurt other folks dogs ;) Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: b.b.b kennels on April 09, 2014, 11:56:44 am I know he's just trying to get a rise out of everybody but I've seen many times what a javelina can do to a dog. Don't care how big of a POS someone is... Wouldn't wish that on anyones dogs. Like Mr Corbell said, we may not all be on the same team but we're playing on the same field. If other dog hunters bother you that much man, get into fishing.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: slimhogdog on April 09, 2014, 03:31:10 pm No offense but I hope someone catches you before you have a chance to turn them out! ;D
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: LTcaughthog on April 09, 2014, 03:54:49 pm I'll tell you what I've encountered them things 1 time and that was enough for me. Caught them suckers up under a house with about foot & half crawling space too get under there and dispatch them. Dogs were all ok except for my pit sasha. Got a good bite on top of the head and under the jaw. Just make sure too give LOTS OF ANTIBIOTICS. There like rats for sure. Nasty as hell. But with getting on them. I don't think dogs can tell the difference honestly. Look like a 40lb shoat And when they do it's already to late for them too stop..there fighting too stay alive cuz they will kill your dogs for sure.

I thought it sounded right francis ;D ;) and yes I agree, i've read a few stories of people gettin pretty hefty fines for doing this kind of thing. Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: Mike C. on April 10, 2014, 04:39:10 pm Welcome to South Texas!!! They are just about everywhere I hunt down here!
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: mikejc on April 10, 2014, 05:59:28 pm ^^^^ times two on that, I've been down here in south tx for a lil over a year and have seen them a lot.
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: muleskinner on April 10, 2014, 10:35:49 pm Wrap them up in foil tightly. Put them in the oven and slow cook them for hours. When they are done unwrap the foil immediately. Spend the rest of the night trying to figure out how to get that smell out of your house. Smells like a wet armpit. One javelina will feed three hundred people.lol
Title: Re: Dang javelinas Post by: TheRednose on April 11, 2014, 12:49:12 am Just a question but why would you want to introduce a feral animal that in essence brings down the quality of hog hunting due to having to worry about your dogs getting on one, especially when your dogs could fall victim to them sooner or later too. Doesn't sound like a very well thought out plan.
