Title: Lost a great one today !
Post by: TexasHogDogs on April 11, 2014, 12:30:08 pm

Lost a great one today. Ole Bell the Lacy from my good Friend Tom Graham. She had a tumor that started on her Uterus and grew into massive size in just two months . Bell lived her life here with me and Kat since she was a pup given to me by Tom. She was a great one for me and found no telling how many hogs 100's of them. R.I.P. my great friend words cannot describe how you will be missed ! Save me a pig are two up there till I can get there to meet ya ! Can't help but shed a tear !

 R.I.P. Bell ! Love ya !

Yeah , I tell ya its tuff to loose a good one like that.  They thought she just had a inflamed Uterus and they could go in and take it out but once he opened her up she was full of blood and he found the massive tumor .  Said that it wrapped around her Uterus were it started out and was around her bladder and half way around her kidneys .  He said it was no way he could cut it out it was just to massive.  So we did what we had to do and he put her down she would have just suffered to bad.  I learned something from this, that I had heard old time dog men talk about.  You see I only bred Bell one time and she only had one pup that Handle It has,  the Tuff dog.  But he said that he see's a lot of this in five, six and seven year old gyp dogs that have not been bred are maybe just bred one time in their life.   He said that a dog that is never bred and they are five six years old has a higher chance of this kind of thing .  Once a gyp hits five six seven years old they over produce a lot of the hormone Progesterone and this is what opens the Uterus, lets them breed and lets the sperm in to the egg's.  Well if one has never been bred and is getting this old he says that their bodies over produce large amounts of Progesterone and the Uterus stays open for longer periods of time even after they go out of heat because of the large amounts of Progesterone because of  never being bred and the Uterus does not close as they would in a younger dog and is producing right amounts of Progesterone .  So what this does is leaves the females Uterus open for bacteria to get into the Uterus and start causing big time problems such as what Bell was having .  It can turn into cancer, tumors and either causing death such as Bell are having to take the female section out and never being able to have pups again .

Old, old time bulldog men always told me if you got a great bred bitch that comes from a great great line of dogs there is nothing wrong with breeding them on their first heat cycle .  They would say that if you do this you will just have to go threw the pups and the gyp later on as she gets older to see if she worked out are didn't work out but they say this helps a gyp threw out her life to have pups much much easier and that most the time you will never have trouble with one if she is bred early in her life .  They would say you wait and it is a ticking time bomb.  Well now I know what they ment .

Hate to hear that Mr Jimmy. I always hope that when their time is up they go while doing what they love, not by a silent killer like cancer. That's a bad deal, I feel for ya

Sorry to hear that. Seems like the great ones, one way or another, we have a short time with. Almost like we don't deserve a long time with a great one.

Hate to hear that my friend. Had that exact thing happen to one of my gyps, caused cancer in her just like you said cause she had only been bred once.  RIP Bell, my condolences Jimmy.

Aw man ,  been more than you think this year .  Caught some hogs but these helicoptors have them push off all this farm land and most the ranch land and they have gone deep into other property's that will not let you run a dog .  So they been calling and wanting me to put a few traps here and there and hell why not if I cant run a dog over there I might as well catch what I can .  Am hoping soon as these crops bloom out they will be back .  I seen this coming here three years ago around here and this year we are living proof of it .  I hate a fing Helicopter shooting hogs .  Peta wants something for real to bitch about for once there you go !

Yeah she dang sure did that didn't she Cory.  This was a dog with a mind all her own.  She hunted her way and her way only, didn't give a damn what you thought.  It took us till she was four years old to figure her out but once she taught us that we was gonna hunt her way boy boy boy it was on on on .  I can still see her in the middle of a coastal field standing out there 150 yds all the other dogs in the woods on the opposite side and she standing there looking at me and then looking at the woods on the other side opposite side all the other dogs was on the other side hunting.  She was trying to tell us hey dumbasses the hogs are over here come on .  Then once I cranked the wheeler she was a missle straight to them and have a whole damn herd bayed up before we could even get there.  I can still hear that High Pitched Bark saying were the hell yall at I need some help folks .

I also will never forget her chasing down a  200 lb boar hog that she found after all the other dogs were done put up in the trailer .  We were all ready to go and was missing Bell then Tom said you hear that the bitch has a hog across the cotton field LOL.  Next thing you know we could hear her getting closer and closer at a high rate of speed .  Next thing we know a big boar was running top speed came out of the cotton field crossed the road and was in a open coastal patch with the nearest woods about 350/400 yards away at the top of the hill.  The hog had a 100 yd head start on her when she hit the coastal field and buddy she turned on the after burners and run that SOB down and nutted him right before he got to the wood line and had him standing baying when we finally got there on four wheelers .  He would try to run she would hit the nuts boom he would stand for a while try to take off and boom again .  Old Tom was a proud man that day his eyes glowing and he said that is one of the best bitches he ever bred and for sure without a doubt the fastest dog he had ever seen.  It was a sight to see and a memory burned into my mind forever and also Kyles and Toms .
