So...I was in TSC to get some things and they had a 8 ft roll of cable marked down to $2.50. It's about the same as the tuff skin antennas just not stiff.....I did a little riggin of my own with a wire hanger and electric tape to test the setup. So far after 3 hunts I have not dropped Bella's signal yet. She only got to 1.4 or so on the Garmin, but that's normal, with normal woods-no valleys or crazy thick woods...so far it works great-if it holds up I'm gonna put some heat shrink over it to seal it up and weather proof it better. I got 4 antennas for $3 or so.....
It's still flexible halfway up and I had to bend it so the receiver acts as a counter weight to balance the collar so it sticks straight up most the whole time.....

T-dog was makin his own from some coaxial cable back in Feb. They were workin then. Don't know how they have done over time!

Yep I'm thinking the range will remain the same.... I'm usually getting 1.25-1.5 on normal types until I loose signal. I did do a road test from riding down the road and got 2.5 but that was on top of hills and not really in woods.

I figure the folks who invest/build this equipment spent plenty of time/$ to get it as best as possible....I'm just glad I got a good deal on 4 antennas.

The bottom line is the collars are restricted to 2 watts of power.. . The best length of an antenna is 22" to work with the freq. Figure out a way to boost the collar power and you will have better range.

I can boost the power but can't figure out how the dogs are gonna carry a car battery and a 1k watt amp.

I have the astro 220 so I am interested to know if someone is using one and if it works...I am thinking about buying one...

If I remember correctly-I saw Twillbanks posing like the Statue of Liberty one time with one---if my memory serves me correctly-the thick bottoms still had the dogs lost at 2 miles or so...

I have one or had one. The antenna broke on the original and the solder came loose inside the antenna where it screws into hand held part on the replacement antenna I bought. It did increase the range. I kept mine in my bag and if they got to far out I could change to it and pick them up. Range for it depended on terrain. In thick pine plantations it was around 2.5 or so. In Ag fields with crp scrub brush and scattered hardwood blocks and tree lines I picked them up to 4 miles once.

I use a 320 with dc40. I lost 2 of mine one day at 1.25 mi. Got out the extendable and picked them up at 2.2 mi. Was hunting with a guy that lost his dogs at .7 hooked up the extendable and picked them up at a lil over a mile. I believe it is worth the money. I can't say exactly what the range increase is but I have yet not been able to pick mine up enough to get closer. My dogs aren't go yonder dogs but when they get on one they go. So when they are out that far I know I need to head for them. This has given me that range that I can with reasonable reliability locate my dogs at over 1.5 miles in pine plantations.

If you would put a brass snap on the end of that thing you could tie the dog out at home when your not hunting.

Go to radio shack they got what you need also.
