Well, after a long night and morning the Barrs pulled it off 3 to 1. Total weight was 313# for the barrs and 121# for the babes. They should have some photos of the hunt... I only got one with my team. ;D Minus Uglydog and Little Ugly, they already snuck off.

Wish I could have made it back for the morning round.  I had a blast trailing around Friday night.  It was great meeting everyone. Thank you to everyone involved!  It was an auction win I am proud to pay - WAY TO GO BABES!

I wish y'all could have made it back out... I had a feeling the morning hunt would produce something. Had a good time and enjoyed the visit! ;D

The only thing better than winning was the comradory. The only thing better than the comradory was the shower that I just took!

Thomas, Cody, and ladies, it was nice to have officially met each of you. The rest of you guys and Mandi, it was good seeing yall again and especially getting to hunt together. I had a great time and we should do it again next year.   O0

reguardless of winning or loosing, both teams took some hogs and the important part is... great friends got together and had an awesome time.


sounds to me like all the dogs did well and everybody leaves a winner in my opinion! It's just that some of you will be eating cookies and some of you won't. ;D ;) :P

Well allright Barrs! Way to go boys. You dodged a .50 Cal shell with that one Chris, that picture would have never went away!  :o great job everyone, and way to raise some dough for TDHA!

     Well, the three hardest words I will ever have to say are, "The Barrs won!"  :'( :( Oh God, that even tastes bad to say! Oh, how gross,I think I smell it too! Nevermind that was mostly just Chance I smelt! ;D The guys ended up getting to hunt the oasis of open woods with a few mesquite trees and scattered yucca plants and their hogs were just  standing in a herd of twenty or 30 in the middle of the pasture just begging to be caught. Us girls got to hunt the haunted forest! It was rollin' rose bush bushes, youpon thickets, and mesquite trees. There was hog sign there but you and the dogs would get tore to pieces trying to find and track it. Looking back now, I am begining to think that we were set up! ;) No not really we flipped a coin to decide who got to hunt which side and we just ended up with a little tougher counrty to hunt by luck. The guys really did put out some good competition for us girls which, I know, Christi and I loved!

     Here is my version of our hunt....
    
     We put three of my dogs on the ground around 7:00 am and started our hunt. We walked behind the dogs the entire day trying to make sure we could cover as much promising country as possible. After hours of walking and the dogs making some big cast we had came up ended handed and were getting ready to accept complete defeat. The dogs had already hunted their butts off the whole morning and were pretty tired and wore out but, we decided to make one more hard push through the thickets to see if we couldn't get lucky. At nearly noon (the time the hunt ended) our efforts had paid off and the dogs found our little boar bedded in one of the patches of rose bushes. He ran about 75 yards and then ole Ike shut him down, they bayed for a few minutes until us gals could get there, when we got close we turned the catch dog loose and followed in behind. The rest was just normal procedure! ;) By the time the last leg was tied though, the dogs were staggering around (there was no standing water in the area that we were hunting in) and us girls were already starting to show some early signs of heat exhaustion. Although we were tired, full of thorns, and in bad need of a drink of water our pain could not have felt any sweeter. We could not have been prouder of our one small hog. The dogs really did go that extra mile for us at the end of the day, especially when you consider the  circumstances. They worked not because that was what they were bred or trained to do but, because they knew that's what we were asking them to do. It's a time when you know you have a reason to be proud of your stock and I was just that.
     Now whether the guys were to tired to enforce the apron rule or just to hungry, I will never know but, they gave us a pass out of having to participate in the photo shoot. We had a great time, met some great people, and I hope created a re-occuring event cause I want a re-match! ;) But, thank you so much guys for letting me and Christ tag along with ya'll on this thing I really appreciate it! And thank you to all of those who voted for us in the polls, bidded in the auction, and took my smack talking for the last two weeks over the internet and while we were on the hunt. ;) Ya'll are aces in my eyes for being such great sports! But, for you Barr supporters remember your guys won't get lucky twice! ;)

Funny how even when yall showed them up (Barrs) they make sure that they bow out with grace and dignity and still get the last word in. Chance you had better watch her and Christi, they will be leaving you home to babysit while they go practice.

Damn JLH, I can't win for losing! I figured had I of let the competition results pass without saying a word I would have got ran down for not wanting to admit us girls lost. Never figured admiting defeat would bite me in the a**. I guess it is a life lesson in damned if you do and damed if you dontology! And you guys talk about girls!

Yo Mike and Chris; JC here,  thanks for an awesome hunt!!!! Yall's time and efforts to benefit TDHA are phenomenal.
  Wish I could have been there for the finalhunt. I was wiped out from a hunt that morning with Mr  Mason and my 10 year old son Noah, and our dogs that Mr Mason is schoolin. (Thanks to Mr M, Noah stuk his first hog with our dogs in action)  WHAT A BLESSING AND ADRENALIN RUSH ALL AT THE SAME TIME.    If it takes wearin pink  panties to hunt with yall -----I confess---It would be worthit,   Good Huntin JC

 Congrats Barrs on ya'lls win. For the Ladies Congrats for on giving the guys a run for there money.

TBL is currently in recovery, still finding scrapes and bruises left by this weekends events.

I would guess that it will take a couple of days to get pictures up but I don't think that she ended up taking many either...... She certainly didn't take any pictures of the hunts BIGGEST "event".

Yup, I'm still recovering, because apparently there are things a lot more dangerous than the heat, thorns and toothy boars in Flatonia... me driving a Ranger! I suppose I'll have to tell the story sooner rather than later, because I can't imagine the version the boys will tell if I don't, but for now I'll put off the embarrassment by saying I'm still getting over the shock rolleyes

Ladies, even though we only pulled one boar out of the hat, Sadie and I had a blast. And it was so nice putting faces to names and getting to know folks better. A special thanks goes out to Chris and Mandi for pulling everything together and Mike for chaperoning.

Barrs, I suppose you got lucky this year, but just wait for 2010: Revenge of the Babes!

    Any self respecting photog would have pulled herself out from under the Ranger, climbed up the creek bank, and gotten some good photos of the wreckage and the recovery effort put on by the competition :o


Just go word a few minutes ago...the hotel clerk that had my hunting gear confiscated by the police, also chased a man out of room 113 with a butcher knife. :o   They refunded my money, and they are crediting me a free nights stay ;)

It's funny now...It wasn't so funny Friday evening :-\      The regular motel clerk was out of town on an emergency, so the maintenance man took over her duties for the day. We found out later that he likes to drink, and drink, and drink some more.  He checked me into Rm 102, then an hour later checked someone else into rm 102 ??? That person went in and found my hunting bag. The bag contains my garmin and 4 dc30's along with flashlights, ammo, and about 8 radio collars. The person then told the clerk, who called the cops and had them take my bag to the station.   When I got back to the motel, the cops had him refund my money, and I followed them to the station to get my bag back....   Having a brass name plate on the bag, and all collars inside, and nobody ever thought to call my phone ???   It all turned out ok in the end I guess....

Im glad I wasn't in competition with the ladies this weekend. I made dry runs on Saturday and Monday! So my hat is off to you gals also!

Of course I know better than to make a bet like that with these gals! lol.

Yeah, we had quite the weekend, I think I'm just now getting my brain back in order!

As Chris alluded to, the Babes had quite an exciting hunt on Saturday. We had a decent run Friday night, one bay that broke and a couple loops that looked promising but came up dry. Fortunately the Barrs only got two skunks, which I'm pretty sure counted for negative points, especially since I had to smell a trailer full of skunky dogs while I was trying to sleep in Steve's truck :'(

When we hit the ground Saturday morning, Crystal turned her curs out and I dropped Sadie and it was game on. We had one bay that was way far off across a fence line that we couldn't get to in time. Other than that it was a very long and quiet morning. By 11 a.m. we'd covered the entire property and still had no pig. After running all night and all morning, one of Sadie's pads was getting raw, so I picked her up and waited with Krystal, Mike and Little Ugly ;) while Crystal, Christi and Mandi took off on an epic push through the brush. And then, 5 minutes before the contest ended, things got really interesting really fast.

After walking through a couple miles of heat, humidity and thorns, the girls had a hog. But with no creeks or tanks in sight, both the hunters and the dogs were showing signs of overheating, and we were on the other side of the property with all three vehicles and water. So we took off at top speed, me driving Christi's Polaris Ranger, to help our teammates. We had to cross a narrow utility bridge over a deep creek bed. The ATV and Mule made it over just fine, but me, Sadie and the Ranger weren't so lucky. I hung on for dear life as the Ranger slowly tipped over off the bridge. We ended up nearly upside down, the roll bar sinking into the mud and one tire miraculously caught on the lip of the bridge, keeping the Ranger from sliding down a steep incline that ended about 20 feet below. Sadie, who was sitting up front with me, was not clipped in and bailed through the windshield without getting a scratch. I was holding on to the steering wheel so tightly that I have blisters on three fingers, so fortunately my biggest injury is a huge bruise across my thighs. Even my camera and most of the beer survived.

A little stunned, I jumped out of the Ranger, grabbed Sadie, who looked a little peeved by my stunt, and scrambled up the bank. Krystal came rushing back, called the guys, said we had a "situation," left Sequoia to make sure I didn't have a delayed concussion or breakdown, and took off to help the girls, who were still stuck on the other end of the property with a hog, hot dogs and no water. Team Barr showed up almost immediately, obviously impressed with my driving skills. They were able to pull the Ranger up with a winch and chain, and with the exception of a scratch in the side plastic panel, it was unscathed. We quickly gathered up the contents of the cooler and the vet kit and took off for the rest of my team. When we arrived they had a decent little boar, officially 121 pounds, and everyone was safe and cooling down.

So, we may not have won, but the Babes definitely brought the excitement to this hunt! After all that, the cookies didn't seem high up on the list of priorities. And no, I did not take pictures of the Ranger, there are some things that just don't need to be permanently memorialized on the Internet ;)

Yeah I will promise you that it was not fun being chased by the hotel clerk.....since I was the one being chased!  He is a BIG fella a tried to keep me in the hotel lobby since he thought I was part of the "crime" that Chris commited by leaving ammo in a bag in a hotel room.  When I got out of the lobby he followed me into the parking lot and then got in front of my truck.  I don't think I will ever be sleeping there again, just knowing that guy is around there is pretty troubling.

     It's a beautiful ranch, not much rain out there this year, so the pastures look like hell, but it is still one of my favorite places to hunt in the state. You need to load up a friend and some dogs, and come out and tie some with us in a few weeks.

Marshall, it really is a pretty ranch. And I'd love to go back and hunt it again. You know, once Chris puts some pigs on it ;)

And if you drive like me, good luck, cause you'll need it to survive! Right after Steve picked me up and we were driving to the lady's bay, he looked down at my feet and started cracking up. There was a big sticker on his ATV that said "Rolling may result in death." rolleyes
