I have an 11 week old catahoula pit mix puppy she has extreme amounts of energy and loves to play and bite on my arms I'm new to this but have always wanted to try it I want to train her to catch but I'm not quite sure how.
She will be running with my buddy's 2 redbone catahoula bay dogs.

Don't know that you can train to catch really....they either will or they won't....for the most part. There are exceptions of course.....but that mix you have, I'd say...has a pretty good chance of being a CD/RCD.

As far as starting the pup...it's no different than starting a cur....I'm sure your buddy can help you out there.

Just my opinion but I never let a dog with pit bull in it bite anywhere on my body. It is a bad habit that could be a wreck waiting to happen. I let them bite on other stuff, but nip it quick when they chew me.

I hadn't thought of that either but seems like a good practice.
She is kinda hard headed what do you recommend for making her listen and stop biting?

Bite her back...

I wouldn't tolerate her biting, or nipping anywhere on your body at all. 11 wks is very young, so best get a handle on it and let her know it is not acceptable. A soft muzzle on her may help while you're messing with her, but it's best to redirect her biting.  Get her something she understands she is allowed to bite and get rough with, a rag or rope maybe.  Be firm, use a command and I'd pin her down till she relaxes, and correct her by showing her what she needs to focus her biting on. Teach her its ok to bite but only on acceptable things. This will help you with training her later on as well. Good luck with your new cat pup!

Slap down on the nose and do not allow that type of play...for me that goes for all pups...

There are some around...gritty type dogs.

I've heard when you put them in the pen with the shoat the first time you should put some peanut butter on there ears and sometimes it helps is there any truth in that?

No You don't have too..lol just make the pig grunt a little.

Thanks For the heads up I've just heard that a few times and had to see if it actually worked lol.

IMO you need to be careful when they are young so that they don't lose teeth. But just take her out and show her a small pig every so often, you'll know when she is turning on, and encourage it. Lots of praise when she does show interest. JMO

Sounds like you're very new to all this just letting you know that intentionally catching a hog in a pen is against the law in the state of Texas.

Just giving you a heads up, and if you're on here looking for advice I would never start a pup that young.

yea she  is very independent great attatude and a high prey drive. Also seems to have very good wind.
