Title: Hill Country Boars Post by: Mike on December 15, 2014, 09:05:30 pm I made a couple of trips out to visit LionandBoarHunter over the past few weeks. Here's a couple of good boars from both hunts. We caught some smaller hogs also and got some good experience in for our pups.
The first trip out Jesse scared the hell out of me as his truck slide off the road climbing up a steep, muddy mountainside. It scared me so bad I jumped out of the truck ha ha ha!!! Title: Re: Hill Country Boars Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on December 15, 2014, 10:16:42 pm Nice hogs and real pretty country. But i believe i would have jumped out of that truck as well. Buddy of mine has a swamp buggy down in florida and long story short i bailed off that thing quite a few times.

Great hogs and dogs! Title: Re: Hill Country Boars Post by: RyanTBH on December 16, 2014, 10:01:38 am That country seems like it'd be a blast to hunt. Makes me wonder how the ol TBHs would hang in those hilly rocky conditions. Great hogs guys, and real good looking dogs. What type of dog is it standing on that hog in the first pic?
Title: Re: Hill Country Boars Post by: Mike on December 16, 2014, 10:29:05 am Thanks fellas, we always have a good time out there.
Ryan, it takes several trips out there to get your dogs feet used to the rocks. My old dogs could go 2 or 3 days with no problems because I took them out there every couple of months. These dogs and pups I have now blow there pads after a few hours. That's Jesse's old Rowdy dog... 10 or 11 years old and still getting it done. He cold trailed that boar off a feeder around noon up a canyon header to his bed. That hog was at the feeder in the middle of the night on camera. He's cur/running hound cross. Title: Re: Hill Country Boars Post by: RyanTBH on December 16, 2014, 10:36:16 am He's a good looking dog for sure. I bet it does take a toll on those dogs... I know when it's dry out during the summer it doesn't take long for the pads to wear out, so I can only imagine with all those rocks how it works out. Do yall dip paws on turpentine of anything pre hunt?
Title: Re: Hill Country Boars Post by: Mike on December 16, 2014, 12:52:03 pm I used to brush hoof flex on my dog's pads everyday for about two weeks before making the trip out... it worked really well.

Title: Re: Hill Country Boars Post by: Whistler on December 18, 2014, 08:56:55 am Nice hogs and dogs. I sure like the head of that dog in the first pic. I bet it's work dragging a hog up them rocky hills.
Title: Re: Post by: Fixitlouie on December 19, 2014, 07:00:50 am Would think its alot more open than the thick piney woods we come across but has a whole different types of challenges. Looks like a good hunt
