Title: not the usual pack
Post by: devildawg86 on January 07, 2015, 10:53:33 pm
I was reading a old post on the Ga Outdoor News forum about  different crosses for a catch dog. One of the responses got me to thinking, has anyone ever ran a pack( 4 dog min.,) of non- traditional hunting dogs ex., German Shepard, Rottweiler, mutts...no purebred or purpose bred crosses.

We have run a few dogs, that is not ur typical hunting dog breed, they did well in striking and holding a bay. But fell short in stamina on runners, then the dogs started to have physical problems because they wasn't designed for the miles a hunting dog puts in.. So now we don't hunt them as ofton.. So yes they are out there and bring in the bacon.

Spot was told she was a cat cross BUT I think she is from a Heeler cross 3 1/2 yr

The is a fella in my area that ran a trio of full blooded chocolate labs and he caught more than a couple pretty nice hogs with em. Im not sure if he is still runnin labs or not or even still huntin for that matter, this was back in 08 or 09 best i can remember.

John Favor used to run a rottie cross for a strike dog. I've used a heeler pit cross and labs and lab crosses in past. All were damn good dogs and out hunted some of these "hog dogs" I've seen lately lol.

Thanks to all the replies. I believe more dogs could be added to the pool of hunting  dogs if they were used as they were intended. Money has missed up the game!
