Title: Hunting @ night Post by: thegroundskeeper on January 12, 2015, 01:57:13 pm I've noticed that it seems like a large majority of you do your hunting at night! In mississippi we mainly hunt in day light. I'm curious as to the reasons? Obviously I know hogs are nocturnal and you are increasing your chances but is this the only reason?

1) .....deer season 2) .....work during the day 3) .......heat in the summertime ......now when the skies open up and the stars align we make daytime runs, just seems like the majority of the time one or more of the above get in the way of daytime hunts...... I don't think it gets any better than a feb-march morning hunt starting out in the mid 40's with light winds and warming to mid 50's as the day goes on.......just seems like we don't get near enough of days like those :D Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: Jmesonp1 on January 12, 2015, 04:12:53 pm Usually when we hunt at night, its because its the only time we have to go or because of the heat in summer. I'd prefer to always hunt daylight. We seem to have better luck keeping them bayed in the daylight.

Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: cantexduck on January 12, 2015, 07:00:12 pm Idiots with guns ? If you are where you are supposed to be what is the issue ?
I dislike hunting at night . I like to see where I am going. Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on January 12, 2015, 07:07:00 pm Idiots with guns ? If you are where you are supposed to be what is the issue ? I dislike hunting at night . I like to see where I am going. Gotta completely disagree with that one brotha. Hence the word "Idiot" with a gun. They tend to show up just about everywhere. And Yep...even the places where you have permission. Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: reatj81 on January 12, 2015, 07:26:49 pm I scared if the dark, Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti,
Snakes, Cheep flash lights, and above all the Yeagua monster, and I get list easy enough in the daylight. If someone shooting at me I want be able to see them! How can you tell exactly what your dogs are doing in the dark? Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: Reuben on January 12, 2015, 07:43:33 pm the biggest worry about daytime hunting is more traffic on roads and the chance of a dog getting ran over is much higher when chasing a hog across the road...or maybe the dogs bay up in the next ranch over and they just might shoot a dog...that to me are the big daytime hunting worries...also better chance of getting a dog stolen as well if it is a friendly dog...

I like to see where I am going. Every deer season idiots with guns and bows... aka "poachers", sneak into all of my city properties. Fortunately, for them, we've never had a dog shot or shot at. And hunting PUBLIC land (which where im suppose to be if im hunting there) more idiots r out during daylight hrs and the public lands iv hunted, nearly every tom, dick and harry hav guns. So YES, idiots with guns. Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: halfbreed on January 13, 2015, 11:24:22 am way too many possums out at night and my old trashy hog hounds love them some possum meat lol . I hunt the day time for hogs , that way all them possums and skunks are home sleeping !!

Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: cantexduck on January 14, 2015, 01:30:01 pm I am glad I don't have to deal with all that. Have caught some people one time but they split before I could get over time them.
Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: Shotgun wg on January 15, 2015, 09:58:22 am I prefer daytime 110%. When I hunt at night it is due to heat. I don't run during deer season because lots of the places I hunt I hunt free. I lay off during season just so nobody has any issues.

Most of my places are night hunt places only though. An I've done had dogs shot in past due to idiots with guns and don't want it to happen again. Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: halfbreed on January 15, 2015, 01:06:36 pm all kidding aside I prefer to hunt the daylight hours mainly because I have found that I tend to bay more sounders rather than singles . I like to jump a whole sounder of hogs in their bed rather than catch up to them on a feeding run . and most times with my old rough pack we had them caught before they woke up good lol .

Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: Bo Pugh on January 18, 2015, 12:29:21 am I like to hunt in the day just for the fact I can see what I'm doing and where im going. It's hard to drive around in a thicket at night. And I can't keep up with anything and a flash light is usually the first thing I loose. I will turn loose in the evening when I get off work some but I try to make it a quick turnout and get back home.
Title: Re: Hunting @ night Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on January 18, 2015, 09:37:24 am Agree. Would love to start hunting during the daylight again.
But all the dog hating zombies are walking around looking for their next meal. ^-^ |
