Boerboels can be used as catch dogs, guard dogs, or pets. This is summary from the AKC website, in case you're not familiar with the breed: "Historically the Boerboel developed as a general farm dog for pioneers, who settled in South Africa in the 17th century. The dogs were often the first line of defense against predators and were valuable in tracking and holding down wounded game. Old farmers have told many a tale about the strength, agility and courage of the Boerboel. The dangers and harsh conditions of southern Africa allowed only the fittest to survive. The protective character and calm, stable, confident composure of the Boerboel, is still evident today." Located in Central Texas.
