Title: Help
Post by: Etxcntryboy on September 24, 2009, 11:25:50 pm
I've got a red Cat gyp that is about 8 months old.  she is amazing in the pen, but don't like to get too far away from me in the woods.  I have only put her in the pen a few times, so I wouldn't think she is "pen sour".  she will go with my old dogs for a little bit but don't stay gone long.  any suggestions?

Keep running her! She is still young and has alot to learn about what is going on when taken into the bush. Once she learns why you we are here and developes her hate for a hog she will start to go out more often and with less hesitance towards being out with the big dogs, Hope this helps!

Hey man, thanks.  I do get the feelin' that she is scared sometimes.  I hunt mostly at night and she has always bayed in the daytime.  I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

It could be! I like to hunt during the day but my brother in law enjoys the night so when I take a couple of my dogs I have noticed my Whippet/Bull will stay a little closer then usual to my leg and give me that turn around and look before answering bark but with time and a few more runs at night I think she should be pretty comfortable day or night.

Run her with long range dogs and don't say anything but "get ahead" in a deep brawlly voice! :P

And don't let your buddies, or anybody for that matter, pet, touch, look, etc...at or around that dog. ;D

ha ha...

GET AHEAD...

If you can, let her kennel with a dog that hunts the way you like...They will become buddies and she will follow..I bet she has a bigger bond with you than she does with the other dogs...let her bond with another dog and she will natrually want to go with it..

Thanks dgDawson,

I thought about.  I think she does have a very strong bond with me.  that is a good thought of putting her with one of my older dogs.

I'd just like to say thanks to all the guys for their suggestions.  I'm sure I'll try some of them.  I just hate to give up on the pup because she's the best I've ever seen in the pen.  If she'll ever hunt like my old dogs I'm sure she'll be the best dog I've ever had.  Thanks again.
