Title: another night at the office Post by: setexasplott on September 25, 2009, 03:36:53 am decided to bring one of my plotts and a half plott for a run in a rice field tonight with a good friend of mine . he brought a plott and a curr with some plott in it. went earlier than normal and the hogs had not made it to the field yet so we pushed dogs to the woods where i figured they would be hanging out.
a little sow made for a quick catch (http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz172/tjplottman/RiceFieldHunt9-24-09002.jpg) after that moved dogs down about half a mile. they started baying a couple hundred yards ahead of us. when we got there we could hear a whole herd then they broke. THREE AND HALF HOURS LATER AND FIVE MILES by way of track we stopped this 243 lb barr hog . We had 2 grown dogs and 2 18 month old pups that never quit . To me this is why i hunt to be able to watch dogs follow through no matter how long it takes. (http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz172/tjplottman/RiceFieldHunt9-24-09006.jpg) (http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz172/tjplottman/RiceFieldHunt9-24-09003.jpg) (http://i825.photobucket.com/albums/zz172/tjplottman/RiceFieldHunt9-24-09005.jpg) he did not have much for teeth but he put on one heck of a race. finally took a bay in a stump hole thanks to hurricane ike and was able to send sojo in to put the brakes on his running . Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: dgdawsonBMCs on September 25, 2009, 01:04:33 pm Yeah, lets see those plotts and plott crosses working..I need to put a take a new pic of my newest additon, female plott pup 13 weeks old...Comes from silent parents, but she sure does like to babble..
Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 25, 2009, 01:07:07 pm Gregg,
A lot of young dogs will babble. I would not say she is going to be open off of it. It is most likely excitement at this stage of her life. Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: dgdawsonBMCs on September 25, 2009, 01:08:49 pm yeah, that is what I figured, no way to know how she will be at hunting age..but she sure does like to talk to me...
Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 25, 2009, 01:11:02 pm Hey, if she is showing interest at 13 weeks in the woods, I'd say you've got a good prospect. ;D
As you know, hounds don't turn on until there 4 - 5 years old. ;) At least that is the way it is based off of what I have read on this fine thing they call the Internet. Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: dgdawsonBMCs on September 25, 2009, 01:26:48 pm I have a couple of cur pups that she runs around and bays with, so no doubt she would bay one...as expected she is a little spazzy, but she has grit for sure...She will definitly stand up for herself even though the other pups are older and bigger than her.. yep, I will be lucky if she turns on by age 4 or so >:D >:D rolleyes rolleyes
Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 25, 2009, 01:32:10 pm If she does not work out, trade her in for a walker. They can walk on water. :o
Title: Re: another night at the office Post by: dgdawsonBMCs on September 25, 2009, 01:35:39 pm If she doesn't work out, I will have to take a good look at my training practice, cause they seem to be working for everyone else. ;D
