Title: Dog Waste Disposal Post by: BriarBay on March 19, 2015, 01:16:59 pm Do yall use any type of DIY septic system or French drain to get rid of poop? I have a cesspool behind my cement pad right now and need to do something about.

I ran a gutter system along the back and spray all the crap into the gutter. From there, I buried a 65 gallon barrel with the screw on tops in the ground and then run the gutter into it. I then put a sump pump in the tank to control the water level at a certain point ,, the water when it reaches a certain point the float kicks the pump on and then it pumps it to my house treatment plant. The solids in the barrel will break down by me opening the top every now and then and sprayin inside the barrel with the water hose til the pump comes on and pumps the broken down solids that is now water out to my house treatment plant tank. Works great...

Title: Re: Dog Waste Disposal Post by: BriarBay on March 19, 2015, 02:35:09 pm Highwater, tell me if I'm crazy...but I was just going to dig a big hole...4'x'4'x6' deep and fill with rock and have my PVC pipe drain into that. I was planning to add lime periodically to help break everything down. I know that this isn't technically a septic system...but I thought it may work for my 8 dogs. What you think?
Title: Re: Dog Waste Disposal Post by: HIGHWATER KENNELS on March 19, 2015, 02:50:43 pm Briar,,, Ive heard people do that before,, they say it works. But to what extent I cant say. I can tell you that I have 5 dogs as of right now and a man don't realize how much crap they dish out until you start spraying it into a barrel.. ;D.. But as it sits in the barrel with water, its easy to breakdown into liquid with the water hose and a high pressure nossel..
