Title: Tuff news
Post by: WayOutWest on March 26, 2015, 05:42:06 pm
Last Friday we were sposed to be headin for Az bright and early, BUT I found a growth in my ol bulldog Jim's mouth. I run him to the vet when they opened and left town. Had a friend pickin him up. Got the results today and it's purty bad. A fast growin cancer that would require takin one side of his lower jaw off. The other option was an experimental vaccine that has been found to attack the cancer cells. I will be back home Monday and the vet will give me costs on the vaccine. Not looking forward to the decisions but I won't take a 10 yr' old bulldogs jaw off. He is a hell of a dog and one of my last links to good game dogs. His dam was off Blackjack and his sire was off Gator.  Gonna be stewin a lot on the drive home!

Yes sir i would be storing some of his "stuff" if i were you. And good luck. Maybe the experimental vaccine will work out. Crazier things have happened. Whatever you decide i hope it works out for the best. Good luck sir !

Very sorry to hear that. We lost a daughter of Rapid Roy recently to an aggressive cancer. She made it to 11 though. Hard to lose the good ones. Let me know if you decide on the vaccine.

I collected him yrs ago only got 3 straws. I checked him about 3 or 4 yrs ago and he was shootin blanks. Krystale I will let you know if I try that. I have a friend up here with a Tatonka bitch that's 4 and she is dealing with a similar deal.

I got the skinny on the vaccine for this treatment. You still have to do the surgery which I didn't ck the price on but the vaccine is $500 a pop and they recommend 4 of them. This was diagnosed as a melanoma. They say the treatment will give another yr. Those with furbabies my drop this cash but from my view I am not gonna cut half my bulldogs jaw off and spend upwards of $3000 to give a 10 yr old warrior another yr. I will keep him till he lets me know he's hurtin and we will go for a last walk!

Wayoutwest- I don't blame you in your decision- I would do the same.

My favorite dog is coming up on 12 yrs old and she is till going strong- I don't look forward to the day I get the same news.

I think you are doing the right thing!

All good things come to an end one day, at least you had a good one!  Next chapter, easier said than done.

Sad ending but he has lived a long good life.
All the srurgery, drugs and the anesthesia would cause him a lot of pain on his old body.
Best way for him is what you've decided.
