Title: Constant eye infection
Post by: matt1969 on March 29, 2015, 07:52:12 pm
I've got a catahoula bulldog that has the worst eye problems. I've got 2 of them there about 2 years old. One has no problems at all. One of them has constant eye problems. They start to bother him and he rubs all the skin raw around his eyes and eyes get full of yellow puss. I get some antibiotic drops and it clears up in about a week. Then 2 weeks later it starts all over again. I've giving oral antibiotics at same time before trying to clear it up. The only thing that works is the antibiotic drops. I'm thinking its some kind of allergy that turns into infection after constant rubbing. Anyone ever have this kind of problem and get it under control. I'm spending quite a bit on these antibiotic drops. I've tried all the non antibiotic drops and nothing works but the real antibiotic drops. Thanks

does he have lots of white on his head and pink eye lids...if he does he probably has allergies like you are saying...you might want to try Vetericyn Pink Eye Spray...TSC sells it for about 30 bucks...

No white at all. Has anybody ever giving Benadryl on a regular basis with any success?

I have a bmc dog that got mange a few months ago on his ears i gave him benadryl to keep him from itching as bad cause he was flipping his ears and wouldnt let them heal. It wasnt allergys but it did seem to help him be more comfortable and not flopn his ears constantly. I just give him 2 pills twice a day.

u sure the dog isn't entropic? Maybe the drops are giving relief by way of lubricant

I've tried all the Otc drops and eye wash out there. He was fine till about a year old. Then it started and came back every few months. Now as soon as I stop antibiotics it back in a week. And it yellow pus right away.

Maybe should try the veterycn spray everyday or other day as a preventive and to keep them moist....T.R. sounds like your dog had a yeast infection in his ear I've seen that several times

Yep Wilson thats entropia. I prob should have described it but that is just what happened to one of mine. About $100 per eye lid and fixed or someone with some steady hands and vet skills

Looking around online it looks like a food allergy can have these same kind of reactions.

try him on a different dog food if food allergies show the same symptoms. have you had him the same dog food (same brand name/manufacturer) since the problem started? if not, id still try another brand, or go all natural and use in conjunction with the drops and start weaning him off the drops a lil at a time till he is completely off them and see how long he goes without an issue.
