But I always get those live traps from tractor supply. Bait with a honey bun, some fish or anything that smells good , cover with some limbs and leaves downby the creek and have a ball. when I was a kid I had an old black woman that would buy every coon I could catch for 5$ I thought I was gonna get rich from live coons..lol..she would eat them. If she wasn't home I'd leave the coon on her porch in the trap, when I would come back there would be cash in it...Mrs. Ruby was her name. My daddy would make me cut her grass. I didn't mind, she'd always give me drinks and candy. Nicest old lady in history. Good luck with your coons !!
Title: Re: Raccoon hunting Post by: charles on May 01, 2015, 09:59:33 pm bad thing with live traps in the wild, anything can get in there. i was trapping for coons to train a hound on and instead of a coon, i got a skunk. even the coon i did catch, he rubbed a hand raw i guess trying to get out or something. well it got infected and he chewed it off and died a couple days after chewing it off. he lived about 2 wks and he even had a BIG cage to live in, but wasn't content evidently. maybe lining the trap with hardware cloth will prevent the coon from tearing their hand up. but i don't know for sure. but ill agree with the southern yankie, if you really want a coon, trapping one will be the best bet, then u got the ability to catch ever how many you want. then when you get the end result of whatever you wanted the coon for, you'll know that lil extra step in catching it yourself helped achieve your end goal

Title: Re: Raccoon hunting Post by: halfbreed on May 02, 2015, 07:58:40 am this is done and advertised all the time , I just wonder when the tpwd will finally start enforcing the laws against it . :o
Title: Re: Raccoon hunting Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on May 02, 2015, 11:15:47 am What is the tpwd ? And this is just my preference here but I wouldn't keep a coon more than a couple or 3 days for ttraining purposes. I believe they take on other scents. I like them to smell as natural as possible. And around these parts there pretty easy to catch. So I was never worried about not being able to get my hands on another one. Also every coon I've ever caught had rubbed his wrists raw looking for ways out . Smart little boogers .
