Title: Dog Kennels/Pens Post by: Adam G on May 26, 2015, 10:05:32 am I get on this website weekly and sometimes daily. I don’t post much but I wanted to share some pictures of my dog pens. This forum was a huge resource for me as well as some of the members on here. I feel like it’s my duty to share. They are 10’X10’X6’. I will be installing Lixit auto-water before long. I use a shovel to clean them daily and push the waste into the back trough. I leave the waste in the back trough for about a week or so. About once a week I clean/scrub them and wash out the back trough. I am able to keep them really clean with this method. I made the back trough wide enough to get a shovel in it so I can push everything to the middle using a shovel instead of jet nozzle blowing crap everywhere. The trough slopes down towards the center where I have a 4” drain. I have the 4” drain pipe buried and it runs about 80’ downhill and dumps in the brush. I only clean with water once a week to prevent rusting out my pipe and hopefully extend the life of my pens. The smell is only an issue on hot humid days but where I live its usually dry and not an issue. I also plan to stub up a hose bib on each end of the trough so I can turn it on to wash out the trough without dragging a hose to each side. I did the ¼” slope per foot on the kennels to let everything run back towards the trough. That is plenty but I would have probably been happier with a ½” per foot to keep things moving a little faster when I wash them out. I also stubbed up conduit to run electrical for lighting and plugs but I haven’t gotten that done yet. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Or if you have any pointers let me know.

How do you keep the floors so white? I have tried several things and haven't found a lot that works besides Clorox and vinegar and that does really do anything but hide the smell

Hogmantx - I use simple green or fabuloso. Probably not the best choices but it works. I get the concrete wet and then splash the cleaner around. Then scrub with a 12" brush on a broom stick and then wash it clean. I am open to suggestions on cleaners if anyone has anything they would like to share? Title: Re: Dog Kennels/Pens Post by: jsh on May 27, 2015, 04:54:13 am Nice Adam. Those are exactly like mine except my drain is at the end. Keep a quality oil based paint applied to the metal and should last you a while.
Title: Re: Dog Kennels/Pens Post by: tnunez on June 02, 2015, 05:17:42 pm Pine Sol and Fabric softener make a really good cleaning agent for kennels. That's what we used on our kennels at the vet clinic I worked at. It smells awesome and it helps lift and prevent stains!

Title: Re: Dog Kennels/Pens Post by: muleskinner on June 03, 2015, 06:14:12 pm Do you mix the pinesol and fabric cleaner with water and if so or not what ratio. And are you spraying it or just pouring it then rinsing?

Mine are on a septic system, so I have to be very cautious about what chemicals I use to clean. I've tried several, and always go back to a simple water wash down daily, with a dawn dish soap scrub down about once a month. For smell, nothing I've found beats this: http://www.amazon.com/Kennel-Odor-Eliminator-16-ounce/dp/B003OF6OPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433451315&sr=8-1&keywords=koe (http://www.amazon.com/Kennel-Odor-Eliminator-16-ounce/dp/B003OF6OPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433451315&sr=8-1&keywords=koe) Mixed, and misted lighty over the kennels using one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/car-wash-nozzle-60773.html (http://www.harborfreight.com/car-wash-nozzle-60773.html) |
