Title: Disabled Marine Vets leather work . Post by: Lance on July 01, 2015, 10:37:37 pm A good friend of mine who is a disabled Marine Corps Veteran is one heck of a hand with leather and is capable of making most custom items out of leather, he's not outfitted for saddles yet. He can make custom knife sheaths to fit any folding or fixed blade knives and can put anything you want on them, custom designs, logos, favorite sports team, name, initials or brand, hog head or skull. He makes very nice custom belts, spur straps, bronc halter nose bands and many other items and can also put anything on them you want and his prices are a lot less than you'll pay to get it made at a big custom leather and saddle shop. He's an awesome artist and if you just give him an idea of what you want he will run with it . I want to help out with a little advertising to help pay the bills because our veterans, especially the disabled ones get a raw deal in return for their services and sacrifices for their country. Thanks for looking. Here is his contact info.

Yes he does wallets. Sounds good. He's a really good guy and could use the business. I'm trying to help him as much as I can. Some of my customers that order a custom buckle from me also order a matching belt to go with it from him, I'm also about to go back to making knives , I've finally got enough equipment rounded up to build them again. Still need to buy a forge but a friend of mine said that I can use his to heat treat blades until I buy one . I can't wait, it's been over 4 years since I've built a knife!! Building bits and spurs is starting to get monotonous and I need a change of pace for a couple of weeks. Title: Re: Disabled Marine Vets leather work . Post by: charles on July 01, 2015, 11:25:57 pm I'm asking bc I don't know, and I can't afford a forge myself, but. Would building a forge not be cheaper than buying one? Build an outer shell out of steel, then lined with 4" fire brick, mortared together with fireplace mortar, a blower fan and a thermostat and pyrometer, fueled by propane or natural gas? Again, I a skiing bc I don't know and iv priced forges before and iv got TO MANY costly irons in the fire rite now. Please don't think I'm being a smartass.
Title: Re: Disabled Marine Vets leather work . Post by: WayOutWest on July 01, 2015, 11:55:10 pm My forge is homemade out of steel and lined with kaowool and painted with a ceramic mix. Bottom is firebrick. I use my shop vac on blower for the forced air. Have a homemade gate valve to control the air. Way bigger than I need but when I built it I was building pry bars. I can have 1500 degrees in 10 minutes.
Title: Re: Disabled Marine Vets leather work . Post by: WayOutWest on July 01, 2015, 11:58:27 pm Lance, it's good to see your getting the itch to build knives again. Wish I had someone close to do my sheaths, I gotta do them myself and I am no artist! That leather work is nice!

Title: Re: Disabled Marine Vets leather work . Post by: Lance on July 02, 2015, 02:41:08 pm Charles and WOW, I've actually been thinking about building the forge myself but hate to loose a day of production in my shop to do it. What I'll probably end up doing is drawing up some plans and taking all the materials to the high school Ag. Department and have them build it. I'll probably use a piece of 12 inch pipe for the body .
