Title: Polaris Ranger Windshield Plexiglass or Lexan
Post by: hoghunter71409 on July 17, 2015, 05:58:13 pm
I want to put a home made windshield on my ranger using a sheet of Lexan or Plexi glass.  I would prefer lexan, but it is twice as much as plexi glass.

I'm looking for pictures and recommendations for or against plexi glass or Lexan.  I planned on using U-bolts to secure the windshield.  I trailer my ranger a lot and I am concerned that the plexi glass wont hold up while trailering at 70 mph continuously.

I appreciate any help.

If at all possible use the Lexan or like product. It will last longer without discoloring, less likely to crack, and will flex more.

drilling plexi is VERU difficult without the right bit, and even still, like tusk hog said, it will crack out and discolor much easier than lexan. you get what you pay for though. go cheap, you may have to replace it many times over compared to the other, or you may have to buy several new sheets before you get the first sheet done correctly

dont drill plexi, use a soidering iron and burn the holes. i made one for my ranger out of plexi. holds up fine at 70mph, thing i hate is if you hunt at night alot, it fogs up BAD!  i ended up cutting it in half horizontally and hinging it so i could flip it down.  Plexi holds up fine, maybe lexan is better about not fogging?

My experience with putting a front windshield is that the dust comes up the back on your cargo and you if you put a front windshield I recommend putting a rear one also if you ride a lot on dirt/gravel roads

Used to work in a plastic shop and I would not use plexi. Use Lexan or it's knockoff and do not tighten the bolts down tight or it will spider around the bolt holes. Either way you will need a plastic drill bit. It should have a 60 degree angle on the tip. Those so called plastic drill bits at Home Depot will not work.
