the wife is looking at getting another tck and supposedly that new engine gets about the same mpg in town as her car does. does anyone know what issues those engines and xmsns are having being out only a year?

My uncle just got one loves the mileage. He's drove one ton dodges his whole life

I'm sure the mpg is good, but i need to know about the mechanical issues in that new eng and xmsn. the mpg is why the wife is looking to go back to a tck and going with that one, but if there are problem like there was with the 6.7 when it first come out, then she may wait another yr or so, of find something else

We'll as long he has  had it there has been no problems.  With  that being said 6-8 months   Almost anything runs great

how many miles has he put on it?

thats a good bit of miles and not had any issues yet. thanks for the info. figure we'll still kick it around for another month and see what other forums are saying too before jumping into a possible lemon eng/xmsn

My dads has close to 40k on it no issues so far. He farms and uses a truck like a truck. Power is respectable. Pulls good. Got more pep than I expected and gets about 22 to 22.5 on highway with 35's. Average around 16 to 17 on the turnrow.

I got a 2014 2500 its already been in for rear end replacement and that stabilizer shock replacement.   All under warranty but still a pain to have a new truck broke down

 lou, that is exactly why im inquiring bout that new 1/2tn eng/xmsn. If its gonna spend half its life in the shop, i dont want it on my yard.

Im not liking that 16-17mpg though. That a big difference in what they are claiming it gets. I dont know what a turnrow is, sounds like something in a plowed field, but if that hillbilly for town, i dont want it.

A turnrow is edges of a field were you turn around. Several guys i work with have been talking about getting one of these trucks im interested in hearing about them myself.

I don't mean to sound ignorant.... But am I reading this right? Half ton dodge diesel? Like a ram 1500 with a cummins in it? Lol sorry but I guess I was unaware these were in production until now if I'm reading right

google it. its not a 5.9 or a 6.7, its a 3.0 diesel. kinda like the 4bt cummins. they have been advertising them for like a yr now. i live in a cave with most things, but dang man, come on.  ;D only reason i keep up on the diesel market is bc i HATE the smell of gas burners and i like the pulling power out of diesels compared to gasers. if it wouldn't give the presidential runs, id drink diesel with my dinner and have jp8/jetA with breakfast. those to fuels at least to me and especially burned out of a cold burning turbine engine smell like nectar would to a bee.

It is a Mercedes motor. And turnrow MPG is far worse than city. For instance I have 156000 miles on my truck. 80k of that was farm miles lots of turnrow miles. My engine has 5k hours on it. That is an average of 31mph. I don't live in or near a city. No stop and go other than farm. Highway speeds are normally 60 to 70. But on a turnrow (road around farm fields) it's 5 to 10 mph engine running 10 to 12 hrs a day. Lots of days I would crank the truck at 6am and kill it at 8pm. That's turnrow miles not to mention dirt mud and trailers.

I would Never buy a Dodge! I lemon lawed the one I had, and have had lots of friends do the same, or just sold them because of all the problems!! Best diesel is the Ford!!

Taz d, Nobody is asking you to buy a dodge and i didnt ask for your opinoin between the other diesel manufactures. Iv had just as many problems with fords and their diesel engines had just as many, if not more bugs than cummins or chevy. Again, i dont care if you would buy a dodge, i didnt ask who would buy what and why. Maybe you forgot to read the first or maybe i didnt draw it in stick figures and crayons so just you could read it

My ford diesel stays in the shop lol have spent a ton to keep it on the road. My old chevy never broke down some are good some ain't my wife has a dodge been a good one drinks the fuel but other than that good truck

Charles you are asking for a opinion on the Dodge truck. Now if it was not what you wanted to here then ignore it!  It was nothing personal, statement from experience with Dodge! Now your comment about the cranyon and stick figure  is something I would expect from a child, so I see why you mentioned it now!! I will not hold it against you if that was how you were taught some people are just slower then others when it comes to learning! Good luck with the truck shopping!!

that snap you heard lou, was his head braking the sound barrier when he dislodged it from his 4th point of contact. i didn't ask for any opinions  about the 2500,3500,4500 or 5500 in dodge, ford or chevy. its plain english. i don't care what your opinion is of the dodge line of vehicles, i didn't ask for it. i ask specifically for the 1500 diesel. iv owned 5 dodges, 3 fords and 1 chevy, and i will go back to dodge regardless of the piss poor experiences you have had with the manufactured line. your inability to read simple english is why either stick figures and crayons might have worked, but maybe hooked on phonics may be more to your likings. if none of those work, try big bird, cookie monster, miss piggy or maybe kermit can. they work on a simple minded level such as yours and would be to break it down to you in 3rd grade learning style for you to understand. if you failed to, or can't read what i was inquiring about, i don't see how you have made it this far in life.

I was kind of looking into them too. But as will all things new sometimes its good to sit back letvthe bugs get worked out and then buy... I personally like my dodge. I have a ford too. Well you know bro...

Thats why im looking for reveiws on it. Same problem the 6.7 had when it came out and the same with the 6.0 when it came out. She needs a tck but needs the mpg bc she drives 100 miles a day round trip.

Charles I know you talked about her having a car but they also put those motors in the jeeps.(grand Cherokee) You said she's in a car now don't know if that would suit you better but a really good friend of mine is Kory Willis and he has tuned quite a few of these  Ecodiesels and can get you even better fuel mileage and torque for pulling. What he says they are pretty reliable SO FAR they really have been out that long though.

If that is the same motor in the sprinter vans very good motor we use them at the shop

I need to pay down at least 1/2 on the Volkswagen Passat  I bought my wife in 2014...then I will buy me an F-150 4x4 diesel...but I am still keeping my OLD/New 1999 7.3...that is my big baby...I will keep her another 17 years...

so far that Passat has been awesome...on the freeway at 65 mph it is reading 55-56 mpg...50 at 70 mph...

That passat aint got the room to haul what needs to be hauled. We had looked at volvo, benz, audi and vw for their diesels, but they couldnt pull a sick whore off the pi$$ pot and no room for hauling and cant pull my trailer and im not building a trailer just to pull behind a car or crossover. Which is why i didnt inquire about anything other than that 1/2tn dodge diesel. I really wanted the M class waggon from benz, but vw had better powertrain warranty coverage than the others, but just didnt have what we wanted.
