Post by: dallas22 on January 12, 2016, 11:33:08 am
I got a jagd gyp that will retrieve i was thinking i could work with her on some shed training does anybody know what i need to do to get her started and if train her does that mean she'll bump a deer more often.

I'm by no means a pro but I let my dog just chew on old sheds in his pen and will play fetch with them then just do some "staged hunts" with a reward when he brings me them. He now brings me any sheds he runs across in the woods.  I don't think it has had any effect on him jumping deer

does it matter how old the shed is

I've always wanted to train a couple dogs to do that and take them to Utah

I don't think it does just cause all the ones I work him with are several years old but I'm sure a fresh shed is easier to smell out then one that's been laying out for a couple of years

Well shoot man that's awesome! She needs a job for sure. Good luck with her bud and we're excited about a puppy!

Sorry to hear that bud. Get him fixed up so he can get back out there! It's prime time hunting season
