Title: River hunt
Post by: liefalwepon on February 08, 2016, 12:50:47 pm
By buds got some access along the river that we made a run on this weekend. Bayed up a sounder in the morning and Caught five including a couple small shoats, dogs ended up swimming the river after a big boar in the afternoon, but by the time we got a canoe and the boys made it over there the dogs came off

It's beautiful scenery for sure, glad we're getting a decent winter, last winter you could wade a cross that river with your pants rolled up. It doesn't look like much but people drown in it pretty common

Some beautiful land for sure!!!

All my places look like briar patches, sandy dry roads, and pine thickets covered in pine straw.

that was the first real sounder ive been on, at first there was 20 or more hogs, but only about ten stayed bayed as the dogs tightened the circle. The sound of all of them grunting was beautiful, I could feel it in my chest, hog music! :)

How's that male walker looking dog bred. He walks from left to right in the video at the beginning. Looks a lot like Cscotts sassy dog

I have only had the pleasure of baying a sounder once in my life and I'll never forget it.

We have bayed 5 or more hogs here and there from time to time and get to hear jaws popping and grunts.

But this one night with old hunting buddy and some others up around Angola LA we bayed a whole herd with some other friends. They had been bayed a while as we were way of our door and took us a while to get in there.

It was pitch black and none of us could see what the dogs were baying as we walked in with catchdogs.

The only way I can explain that sound is it was like cicadas, some call em locusts. But way louder. I guess they had all settled in and circled ranks on the bay and had this rhythmic sound going. Me and my bud where next to each other at arms length and tryn to speak softly to one another but couldn't hear each other. It was the loud. I asked him, in what seemed like a yell at the time. What the he!! Is that? ...he said that hogs....I couldn't hardly believe it. It sounded as loud as a train.

They had settled into a beat we felt as much as heard. They would all sound and it would wind down then start right back up...wasn't grunts. All I can figure is it was dozens of hogs grinding teeth all in unison at the dogs in a rhythm. It really did sound like alien cicadas.

Then we sent catch dogs and all he!! Broke loose... Lol

Semmes that's a cool story!
These ones were grunting but it definitely had a rolling rythym to it, and at first I thought what the hell is that!? Before I realized it was hogs, it was loud

A lot of the private land up here is pretty nice, similar to cen cal, but as soon as you get on public land it gets nasty, steep or brushy or both

Slim, that's a half walker and half cow dog, some of those other dogs are all cow dog, Mcnabs and border collie or crosses of the two, really loose baying dogs, my dogs never would have bayed up a sounder. That was in bear country and I hear the hogs stick together and fight where the Bears are thicker
