Title: abscess on dog Post by: blackdogs on February 22, 2016, 10:55:40 am i have a dog with i think an abscess behind his shoulder blade. its about the size of a grape. any advice on draining it.

Title: Re: abscess on dog Post by: Black Streak on February 22, 2016, 12:30:06 pm Put a large gauge needle on a syringe and stick it in the abscess. Draw out the fluid. If it's a clear liquid it's probably just a gland that's aggrivated from something like laying on it. Just draw the fluid off for a few days. If no change after a few days of this, go see vet.
If it's puss, it could be from a thorn or something and needs to be lanced, clean it out, flush it with iodine and leave it open. Continue to flush it couple times a day.
