Title: Jaguars in TX?!?
Post by: alphabravo on March 29, 2016, 09:50:48 pm

Heard from a friend that there have been Jaguars spotted on Texas.  Anybody seen one or even signs of one?

We went to brownsville a few years ago and ended up in a tpwd nature center in the middle of nowhere while lookin for fishin spots. The tpwd employees showed us a tracking system that had 2 jaguars currently being tracked in that area that had been previously trapped. It was pretty cool.

We may have some here on the east coast. If you go to the Stevenson's old time southern bulldogs site and look at his misc. pics, there is a picture of a big black cat that looks like it may be a black jaguar

Just a heads up extremely illegal federally and state. You can't even possess a hide in the United States and Mexico.

What about a panther? Or mountain lion?

What's the difference between panthers, Jaguars, and mountain lions? A few years ago we called in a very large, solid black cat with a long tail. It used the cover and never presented a shot. We, as well as the neighboring ranchers, believed this cat was killing calves pretty aggressively and often. The government trapper tried to catch it but never told us not to shoot it due to legal reasons. He just assumed we would shoot on sight and he never told us not to. Just wondering how they could think ranchers wouldn't shoot it?

The Jaguar and the Cougar (Puma, Mountain Lion) are two seperate species. Not the same cat at all.

Thanks for the clarification. All those different names get confusing lol.

The deer was killed less then 300 yds from my house. The track was taken 2-3 days after the deer was killed. Was like 4 3/4 inches long and 4 2/4 wide.

That doe is still hot in that pic. She had squatted to pee less then 20yds where she laid dead. Teeth marks in her neck. Neighbors beagle had it bayed. Went up there and found that. Had my race horse and a 2 other's come up with claw marks down their backs.

they must be here in tn too since their is no such thing as a black panther . although black ones have been seen along side with what the experts call an eastern cougar .

or maybe my kin and all these people my family has known for generations are all of sudden having hallucinations without smoking crack .

Slim i tell u what shorty is all hunt i know she'll take any track so damn one direction when she has a scent. She kept me up all last night i finally got up and was gonna put shock collar on her . But i decided to let her run the yard sure enough she found a opossum. I think she'd track a bob cat or anything .

She will hunt that's no doubt. Always had. That was why you got her. I couldn't get a handle on her, all she wanted to do was hunt anything that left a scent. I miss her though, she was a cool little dog to have around!
