Title: Dog that over heated...... Post by: cantexduck on October 12, 2009, 11:58:32 am My lab got hot a month ago dove hunting. I got her home and got her filled up with fluids. She seems real tired now a days. She looks like a differant dog. No energy like she use to have. The look in her eyes isnt there any more. She also doesnt listen very well any more. When she sleeps she is out.She is 8 and has never slowed down till now. It is like she is a 100 year old woman. She has picked up 1000's of dove and ucks for me but no seems to act like she doesnt know what heal or here means. She is my dog/pet/family member. Not sure what type oif test can be done if any to help her if she is in pain or infections. She has been getting some greenish slime in her eyes the past few days as well.

At this point the best thing anyone could reccommend would be if you haven't taken her to a vet yet please do. Heat stroke is pretty messed up stuff and from what I have heard is alot like the anti drug commercial with the egg "This is your brain on drugs" in the way that it heats the brain. I am sorry to hear about your pet and wish you and her the best!
Title: Re: Dog that over heated...... Post by: Bryant on October 12, 2009, 10:42:32 pm If it's been a month, chances are anything that's wrong that could be potentially fatal have passed.
Take her to the vet and have a blood panel pulled. That should tell if there's any kidney or liver damage. If you hunt her again, keep a close eye. Once they get hot, they're at a lot greater risk of it happening again. Title: Re: Dog that over heated...... Post by: cantexduck on October 13, 2009, 08:29:02 am She is headed to the vet today. She is done dove hunting for life. Going to see how she will do during the winter on ducks.

Very interested in the vets' comments for I had a gyp that had a heat stroke a year or so ago then over heated this year. Am real careful now. |
