Title: tail docking Post by: dallas22 on June 25, 2016, 08:31:31 pm anybody ever dock a puppies tail at 6 weeks old with rubberbands and how did it turn out?

Title: Re: tail docking Post by: Goose87 on June 26, 2016, 09:24:17 am I did one once with a rubber band when he was older, I'll never do that again, it was very unpleasant for the pup and very nasty, I try to dock a little off the tail of every litter I raise, do it with a pair of wire cutters under a week old and they won't even whimper, I can't stand a tail knocking around in the dog box when I'm trying to listen for something and a busted tail tip never heals up on a wiry dog.

I have docked a 6 month olds and ended up having to make my hound a 3/4 tail when he got an infection in his tail from a coon bite. Doesn't hurt.
