Title: Heartbreaker Post by: Judge peel on July 16, 2016, 05:01:27 pm Paul m wanted to hunt we ain't hunted in a while went down to his spot dogs did real good. Caught two nice hogs one went cross the river and the boar made a big loop. All the dogs did there part but bubba was putting on a clinic unfortunately he got gutted. I found him in some briars I laid down with him picked up his guts best I could and layed with him but this guy wanted to live. Took Kp shirt wrapped him up best we could I held him in my arms all night till morning he was still alive took him to the vet luckily none of his insides where damaged. Vet operated on him awake cuz he figured he might die if he knocked him out so far he is still kicking. So maybe God willing he will pull thru This dog was baying with his guts out ain't many dogs like him (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160716/924b5965121e854bc66a1d2f08792909.jpg)(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160716/b75a48e0d2d0b7b18625580aa9d4cce4.jpg)

Its the worst part about working dogs . You end up spending soo much time with these dogs and it really hits hard when one gets hurt or killed . I sure hope he makes it and your actions say a lot about how much the dogs mean to you .
Good luck and take care Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: Judge peel on July 17, 2016, 06:18:22 am Thanks fellas. He means a lot to us. I ain't never been one to treat my dogs like replaceable tools I pour my heart and soul into these dogs. And I truly believe it makes the difference. But as you know it will pull it out of you when things like this happen it will remind you how tuff this ol world is

I'm a firm believer that a dogs I'll try harder when they feel that they are loved and not just treated as a disposable tool. I lost one of my best not long ago and it tore me up. That dog had so much heart I don't know how it fit inside him. It's the chance we take every time we load em up but still sucks when it happens. Good luck to ya sir!

Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: Judge peel on July 18, 2016, 08:59:23 pm Thanks Justin. Just wanted to say few more things bout the hunt cuz it was wired. First off we get to the spot and there was a few stray dogs running around pull to the back unload and relize few other guys we know are there hunting to. But any way we start to hunt I put bubba and tiny on the ground take off the kids that where with Paul set few dogs on the ground. Bubba and tiny took off making some big loops. Well the other guys that where there came pretty close to where we where. But bubba and tiny was pretty far off bout 1/2 mile so I put flash on the track where they took off. But they came back so we moved up where we saw those other guys. And they took off bout 3/4 of mile baying get close and they crossed the river. So we had to go back get on the rd to get to where they where bayed bubba had that hog caught for a long time finally got to them. Kp had to tie a rope to a tree and climb down to the river dropped Leroy caught this was in the water. Re grouped and went back to where they struck and they took off again bout 400 or 500 we was just drive got close and saw they where bayed. But it was so thick cd couldn't get in and it broke. So we just hung out while bubba and flash where on his track. Bout 45 min went by and they sat him down bayed down in some nasty stuff. Just wanted to tell the story.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Judge...I am a firm believer in keeping the dog or pup at your side during a severe injury or illness until it can make it to the vet......it is my belief that a dog can some of the time will himself to live because of the extra attention and just being there with them...I will bring a dog in the house and I will make a bed for him next to my recliner and I will sleep there next to him or her...done that more than a few times throughout the years... glad to hear your dog is coming home tomorrow... Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: Reuben on July 25, 2016, 08:49:23 pm sound slike he is gonna pull through it ....that's good .... my poncho dog got his guts pushed out of the lineing but still in the hide just a hole in his hide with a big buble under it ....but anyway the vet put him to sleep I guess cause I told him he would bite ... before I got hom ethey called and said he had died ....I really believe it was being put to sleep that done it ....I have sewed up lots of dogs blowing air but the guts scared me and he was a sure nuff hogdog and scared me to do it myself .....I wish I would have had your vet may still have poncho .... Larry...I had an up and comer pup that was really doing great...we caught a big boar in a dry creek with high banks and he got a bad cut and had a muscle hanging out...I took him to the vet in hopes of the muscle getting sewn back on...he lost quite a bit of blood so I let him drink all the water he wanted...that was a big mistake...he was put to sleep for the operation and he drowned in his own fluids...the lesson there is it is best to keep the water low and no feed until he is awake after an operation... Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: Judge peel on July 26, 2016, 10:42:09 am Well got him home this morning he skinny as heck but he is still kicking so I am happy and the bill was very reasonable. Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: CRC on January 06, 2017, 01:36:03 pm Dang man hate to hear that, all this time you been letting him lay up thinking he's doing good just for a set back like this.
Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: Cajun on January 06, 2017, 07:15:53 pm Judge, I would put him back on antibiotics pronto. I lost a good plott gyp several years ago. She got gutted, made it thru surgery & was doing good & 2 months later she went off her feed & was dead in two days.
Title: Re: Heartbreaker Post by: Judge peel on January 06, 2017, 07:37:13 pm Thanks fellas. Ya Cajun he been at the vet since Tuesday but my wife had called the lady that runs the office for the vet we use and was nice enough to meet my wife up there during the holiday while they where closed. And gave her b12 shot and antibiotics to start till they opened back up. He said he going to hold him until he gives him a full course of antibiotics. He won't eat much last night my wife boiled a chicken and the vet let her drop it off to feed to him. So will see how he is on Monday should be a big difference.
