Title: Gator ate? Post by: jstankus on July 31, 2016, 11:30:11 am Lost communication with a dog the other night, think he might have gotten gator ate. Anyone got experience with this, Garmin lost coms completely and the dog with him came back skidish. I went to where we lost coms and it was gator infested but I figured I could get coms with the dog but nothing. I had a DC40 fully charged on him and never heard a bark or nothing the whole time it went down. This was about .73 miles from camp and then the next morning the lost coms was about .81 miles but into a swampy area that was deep. I just thought the garmin would at least still communicate with the handheld. Lost a good dog and a collar >:(

I don't think he picked up the collar afterward but he went to where he had last com with him. Was off in a creek coming off the lake. Was about an 8 foot gator in there prowlin around. Went back the next morning and made sure that gator was never gonna eat another dog.

Title: Re: Post by: cajunl on July 31, 2016, 03:45:46 pm Lost one with a dc40 to a gator. Last signal was 100 yards in the water. Found the dog with a boat 4 days later. I would go look. I don't think a gator would carry him above water for another 400 .....especially over land. Most of the ones I know of stash the dog close to where they take the dog. The garmin collars are not the most reliable devices around. Good luck, hope you find the dog.

Got off in a beaver pond could hear him abd a pig fighting was out in water over my head. Lost service with him everything went quiet could not find dog or anything but could see plenty gators. Picked the collar up Next morning after I went back to look he had moved out the pond was laying beside a 50 pound pig still chewing on it had been there all along these garmins do funny things in the water I would go look again

Something about the gators killing them, then waiting for them to go half rotten before eating them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have read the same thing...gators can't chew their food so the catch their game and then stick the animal under a log or something that is under water so the animal can get tender and it can then be ripped more easily and swallowed in chunks...I lost my best dog ever to a gator and have been with friends that have lost their dogs to gators... in some places gators are dog smart...they hear a bay close to a bayoo or lake and they will be coming in hopes of catching a dog... |
