Title: One Eyed Catch Dog Post by: Hunt the Grunt on January 12, 2017, 10:59:13 am Over the weekend we bayed a group of about 30 head. Mostly big hogs. Let them bay for about 20 minutes and they finally split one off from the group but only about 50 yards away. Ended up sending the catch dog to the hog that was singled out to the left of the group and as my luck would have it he took back to the rally soon as I sent the bulldog.
They worked him over for about 10 minutes and the rally finally broke. The bulldog ended up staying caught on a big red boar. He did however get cut in his eye. It is glazed over and I'm pretty sure he won't be able to see out of that eye anymore. Bad thing is, haven't had this dog very long at all. Picked him up at a gas station cause the chief of police jokingly said "yall take that poor dog home with ya," so I gave him a chance and he made a hell of a catch dog. My question is, have any of you or anyone you know ever had a one eyed catch dog? Did you have problems with him missing much? The only time I saw any issues was at night

I know vetericyn has an eye wound spray that may be worth looking in to, I know their other products are awesome but ive never used the eye spray.

A buddy gave me a one eyed dog one time he would alway fight anything that came up on the side that had no eye. He jumped on my gyp one day we'll he gone

It looks like the eye was not damaged but he was bleeding out the corner of his eye. Almost looked like tears of blood so not sure what actually did get damaged. It is still glazed but hopefully its just the eyes way of healing itself. But as of right now its just sore and he doesn't open it much. I've been putting some ophthalmic antibiotics in his eye so hopefully his vision will come back. Title: Re: One Eyed Catch Dog Post by: make-em-squeel on January 19, 2017, 05:23:52 pm The one we had that happen to was a pet afterwards bc it messed up his depth perception and he would break bays way more frequently than before, seemed worse at night but he was never the same in the woods despite still seeming normal around the yard and still catching some when we had nothing else, Id still test it and see you never know seems I remember another kid saying his was ok after a car hit his cd and hurt his eye/glassed over

He is definitely blind! But good news is it doesn't seem to be effecting him much. He hasn't missed any yet since I started back taking him, but you will cuss him if you have to lead him to a bay... lol He will go to the opposite side of every tree you come to! She had a blue milky eye that would get a little better, and then a little worse all of the time. One time I asked my uncle after she had just had a bad tangle with a daytime coon, "you don't feel bad for Mitzie and her just having one eye".....My uncle replied "Mitzie has been eyed so long .....she don't know other dogs have two" ;D

I wouldn't worry about it unless you hunt a lot at night. That's the only time you could tell weakness in either of the dogs. If you just hunt in the day time I wouldn't give it a second thought.
