Title: Getting bitch to cycle
Post by: Not color blind on September 15, 2017, 10:33:25 pm
Little history on the bitch, on the top side very tight line bred east tx cur dogs, on the bottom a F1 cross from a tight line bred east tx cur over line bred elhew pointer,  the cur line on bottom is not the same as top. That being said I know that tight line bred dogs tend to start having bitches show up that won't cycle, but this is a F2 cross, hybrid vigor should have kicked back in. The bitch I'm discussing is not masculine built so I don't think there is a hormone issue, but she is a waspy built hi metabolism type dog, getting her fat is impossible. Been raising hunting dogs for 40 years, done every trick I've ever witnessed, none of them have worked, if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Made the first breeding didn't get but 4 pups in this bitch's litter, she was the only bitch, 1 dog didn't make it out of puppyhood, 1dog got killed by hog as a yearlin, the last dog is turning in to a sho nuf gudn, this bitch is possibly gona b 1 of those exceptional females that just come along ever so often, that being said the sample that I'm observing is spot on, doing what we set out to do, but the next step is not possible if I can't get her to breed!

There was talk on victor dog food causing bitches not to cycle and possibly the higher iodine content in victor dog food...

Years ago I bred a tight line of mt curs and there for a while the females didn't come in to their cycles until i cut back on the ivomec...I was giving a higher dose for awhile...it might have been coincidental but that fixed my issues with my females...

i have used it a couple times ....here's what it says  on the dosage ....

In pigs, PG 600 is the hormone used to start cycling in gilts. It knocks the scar tissue off the ovary, allowing the ovary to start cycling. Dogs also respond well to PG 600 - use at 1cc/20 pounds. For the best results, give the first two doses 5 days apart, then weekly until in heat.

This gyp was just as you described yours, really high strung and really lean and athletic and never cycled until she was past 3 years old, and that was this past summer and I stuck her and had a litter of ten, I couldn't get her to cycle once I got everybody else lined out and cycling, I swapped back to showtime 24/20 and started her on a daily k9 multivitamin at the recommendation of a close friend who is our local county agent and within about a month or two of swapping her diet and starting her on the vitamin she came right on in...

She's a 11/16 walker and 5/16 July, she's a speed and drive bred dog for pen, doesn't have much of a trailing nose to her but can really push a jumped track fast, that boy just don't the knowledge and blessings that he was born into and around when in comes to good dogs and horses, I'm obsessed with dogs and his mother is with horses, and his papa is obsessed with both, it's in his blood lol...
