Title: My "hands" crew Post by: t-dog on February 15, 2019, 06:19:42 am Several of us on this board have been in this sport for a while. I don't know about y'all, but I've been grooming some help and I'm sure proud of the job they do. I've paid my dues lol, it's their turn. They're the lucky ones that get to get out in the water when needed, or double time it to the dogs if need be. They get to wrestle with the caught hogs and the struggling while getting them tied. I get to watch my dogs perform closer and point and give directions. Now I know why all the old men I started with wanted me to hunt with them. I thought it was because I was so cool and good looking lol. My boys have been going since they were really little. My oldest, JR, could tie a hog right when he was 6. I just about had to leash him to keep him from running in too quick and it possibly being something that he couldn't handle. I remember handing him a bulldog to hold onto once. I told him "make sure you don't let him go and run your hand through that handle". A hog squealed and that dog hit the end of the leash and literally jerked that boy off his feet. It looked like a cartoon with him floating and skipping chest first across the barn yard. It's hard to help when your laughing like that. When he stopped, that boy jumped up, scolded the dog, and then looked right at me and said " I didn't let'em go daddy". I said you sure didn't, good job. He never got jerked over again, lol. My youngest, Slayde, is making a hand. He know my dogs. He can call them too. Listen daddy, Raylynn is baying over there. Sure as anything it's her and she is bayed. We were calling dogs in one hunt and another buddy started to call the dogs in. Slayde says, naw listen, you do it like this, and starts calling dogs. We laughed for 10 minutes. He had it down and they came in to him too. My nephew is a big ol' boy. At
6'4" and 290lbs, it's nice when he has his hands on a big hog or you drag one out whether it's 5 yards or 50. He's been a fixture in the woods with me since he was a little guy too. Kyle and Ben haven't been hunting nearly as long. They are good hands though. They listen and pay attention to everything. They aren't know it alls like so many young people these days. If they say they are gonna do it, they do it. Both are well mannered and go getters. I coached Kyle in peewee football and he was a good kid then and a go getter. It seems like yesterday and just this last season him and JR went to play football at the same college. There are other young guys around that I hunt with now and then that are good hands too, but these are my regulars.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/cca4eba0b2d056d5cebb51c49422ad6a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/e3cb31a52f06704f18dd53245e373dd5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/803198bad29ba37db1678e25688e373a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/4266a97b111ddffec2b2c82dfcfbce1a.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/e9b37002d3975cd667d17a6eb375f17b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/d5d97ad2ac6a0ad1a9b1985839a466ab.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190215/360b2c5679297cd46a008e09b8a58995.jpg) Sent from my SM-G892U using Tapatalk Title: Re: My "hands" crew Post by: Mike on February 15, 2019, 06:56:37 am Looks like a fine crew you have there t-dog.

Thank goodness too cause ol T dog needs as much help as he can get. Naw I'm just playing, they are all a top notch crew.

Title: Re: My "hands" crew Post by: Goose87 on February 18, 2019, 03:05:58 pm That's awesome, we have a lot of similarities, Billy and myself are the oldest ones in our hunting group and neither one of us is over 40, just about every time we go we have somebody's young in with us, if it's not one of ours it's a kid of a neighbor or friend, or a few teenage boys, who grew up hunting with us, with so many negative distractions today it's vital that we focus their attention and energy on something wholesome while their young...
